**Controller** Working closely with the President, you will become involved in every facet of day-to-day finance and accounting. Safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions maintaining integrity of General Ledger and Financial Statements. We are seeking a designated accountant with extensive business and finance experience. The controller is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, cost control, analysis, budgeting, and year end review with auditors. The Controller will be a hands-on, trustworthy professional that has a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, possesses excellent communication skills, and has strong organizational ability to plan and manage in a fast-paced environment. They will be a problem solver with excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach and manage their team. **About the Opportunity** - Overseeing day-to-day full-cycle accounting processes, including managing A/R and A/P staff, GL, cost accounting, bank reconciliations, filing all federal and provincial reporting requirements, investigating variances in reporting, internal controls and general accounting and ensuring quality control over all financial transactions and financial reporting - Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credit and collections, payroll, and inventory of assets - Prepare and analyze timely monthly financial statements and annual budgeting for management. - Provide financial analysis to evaluate company ventures, special projects, programs, and capital expenditures - Direct, coordinate and participate in physical inventory counts, reconcile and investigate variances, then prepare entries to adjust inventory valuation - Preparing, analyzing and consolidating financial data and recommending plans and analysis of raw material inventory levels. - Complete government filings (i.e. EHT, HST, ETD, WSIB returns) - Coordinate review of year-end financial statements and liaise with external accountants - Improve and maintain internal controls for accurate financial reporting and for compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements - Shape and manage the company’s finance policies. - Review all month-end closing activities - Responsible for looking after banking, insurance, and leases - Complete month-end closing journal entries, financial reports, payroll summaries - Prepare cash flow projections and report with recommendations - Manage the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Accounting Department - Motivate and lead all personnel in the department, ensure the team is working effectively - Review all cost centers and look for means to improve them where appropriate - Look for grants/bursaries/rebates/hiring credits to benefit the company - Providing regular financial management reporting which would include reporting on gross margins, net margins, analysis of overhead spending relative to budget and maintaining risk management portfolio **Requirements**: - This position requires at least 10 years of professional accounting experience (preferably in a small/mid-size company) - University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree - Professional accounting designation (CPA, CGA or CMA) - Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management - Fully knowledgeable of Canadian payroll which is processed weekly to act as backup for HR Department - Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills - Experience with inventory - Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms - Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience - Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward with the work at hand - Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines **Preferred Technical Fluencies** - 5 years of experience with a current ERP or financial "back-end" system for management of all GL's, AP, AR, inventory purchasing & receiving, and payroll - Working knowledge of ERP software such as Epicor - Creation of customized tables and reports, as required by management or other key stakeholders for analysis **Key Capabilities** In addition to the skills described above, you are: - Highly organized and planful — you have the ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail and prioritization skills. - Execution-oriented — you have a strong ability and desire to execute to the highest standard.
