**Working for the** **China Institute**
The China Institute is a high-profile research centre and university think-thank reporting directly to the Office of the Provost and Vice Provost (academic). First established in 2005 with an endowment of 37 million, the China Institute has now become the largest interdisciplinary China study centre in Canada and one of the leading Institutes in North America focusing on cutting edge and policy relevant contemporary China studies. Every year, the Institute organizes many international conferences, seminars and other events in Canada and in China that bring together senior government, industry and academic leaders from Canada, China and around the world.
The China Institute receives multiple additional grants every year from government and granting agencies to provide research and training programs. The Institute also runs a large granting program that provides significant funding to support China-related research, learning, community and campus wide initiatives. Widely recognized as a go-to place for China expertise, members of the China Institute conduct on average 60-80 media interviews on an annual basis.
**Position**
Reporting to the Head of Research, the Research Assistant (RA) is responsible for provide day-to-day research support for the Institute’s various research projects and the Director. The RA will assist in content development of the Institute’s research plans, project/grant proposals and training programs well as contribute to data collection, verification, analysis and visualization.
**Duties**
**Research Support**: Assist in content development of the Institute’s research plans, project/grant proposals and training programs; edits and proofreads the Institute’s reports, publications and proposals; researches and drafts policy briefs and briefing materials; prepares presentations and contributes to data collection, verification, and analysis.
**Communications**: Collects information and assists with preparation of media interviews; assists in communication with stakeholders on research projects; drafts letters and other correspondence as required.
**Administration and Events**: Supports TCI conferences and events as required; other administrative duties as assigned by the TCI leadership team.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Policy Studies, International Relations, Economics, or a related field.
- Outstanding writing skills.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Quantitative and qualitative research capacity.
- Familiarity with policy research and policy development.
- Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a team member.
- Knowledge of Asian politics and economy is considered an asset.
