The Community Impact Centre Receptionist is a crucial point of contact for many service users and visitors to the downtown Impact Centre. This position is fast-paced and requires the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while still maintaining a compassionate and professional approach with all stakeholders. Answering incoming phone calls and inquiries from guests and the public is primary to this role, as is working closely with The Mustard Seed’s guests by encouraging them in their journey and connecting them with the appropriate resources. Additionally, this role is administratively focused and requires excellent proficiency in time management, interpersonal skills, organization, and all components of Microsoft Office.

**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Answer phone calls in a polite and courteous manner as well as track, log, and transfer phone calls accordingly.
- Create guest profiles using the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and refer guests to the appropriate services.
- Sign guests into the downtown Impact Centre and book appointments for guests with program staff.
- Facilitate relationship with the Calgary Food Bank to process hamper requests and ensure hamper delivery.
- Conduct soft Advocacy for guest, including connecting guest to the appropriate resources within or outside The Mustard Seed.
- Maintain and monitor volunteer and guest activities within the downtown Impact Centre.
- Serve on the Health & Safety Committee and fulfill requirements of H&S in the downtown Impact Centre including inspections, reports, and attending meetings.
- Greet and ensure visitors are treated with excellence and appreciation.
- Greet volunteers appropriately and ensure they are assisted as needed while also working closely with the Volunteer Coordinators.
- Consistently communicate with the Street Level team as issues arise.
- Perform clerical duties.
- Provide crisis intervention as required.
- Track statistics, prepare reports, attend training as required.
- Required to abide by all Health & Safety protocols including completing a report for all incidents that occur, including near misses, in a timely manner.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Associate degree in Office Administration, a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of mental illness and addictions preferred.
- Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Proven computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent multi-tasking capabilities.
- Proficiency in critical thinking and problem solving.
- An independent self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team.
- Strong desire to work with a marginalized population.
- Experience working with volunteers.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- This position involves a moderate level of physical activity, including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and carrying. Additionally, it requires daily interactions with colleagues and guests.
- This position is often fast-paced, and requires a focused amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve.
- This position requires focused mental effort, including but not limited to, operating a computer, using two-way radio communications, perceiving and quickly responding to crises within and around the buildings.
- Exposed to challenging situations like overdoses, angry clients, and the potential of violence.
- Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
- Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.
