New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.
**Position Summary**:
The role of the Health Information Analyst is to promote an accurate and complete HIM (DAD/NACRS) Database that clearly demonstrates the patient’s journey while adhering to the Canadian Coding Standards. They are to liaison with healthcare providers to ensure that their documentation is accurate and complete by meeting the requirements mandated by CIHI and the Ontario MoHLTC. The Health Information Analyst will ensure that they are current with all data collection requirements for QBPs and other funding requirements that utilize CIHI data. They will be responsible for ensuring healthcare providers are aware of the documentation requirements to facilitate the best and accurate funding possible, legitimately. The Health Information Analyst analyses databases to improve data integrity and comparability
**Position Requirements**:
- Successful completion of a Post-Secondary Degree; Health Informatics/E-Health, Health Information Management.
- Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).
- Member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
- Minimum three (3) - five (5) years' hospital experience in: coding, data interpretation, data quality improvement, performance metrics, statistical and management reporting.
- Recent acute care hospital experience in Health Records Department using ICD-10-CA/CCI including responsibilities for coding, abstracting, and CIHI reports.
- Strong CIHI knowledge including: ICD-10-CA; CCI standards, Canadian Coding Standards, DAD and NACRS (Level 3) including submission requirements.
- Conversant with healthcare/medical terminology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid, hands-on experience working with various hospital clinical and financial systems (i.e., Cerner, 3M HDM (Health Data Management) and 3M Codefinder).
- Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment complimented by advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with monitoring and analyzing data in source systems to identify data cleanliness issues (e.g., missing values, invalid data) as well as ensuring corrupt data is fixed in the source systems.
- Knowledge of MOHLTC funding and reporting
**Position Responsibilities**:
**_Departmental _**
- Develop and implement standard audit methodologies and systems for data cleaning (i.e., identify, extract, correct and/or prevent errors).
- Work with healthcare providers to determine deficiencies in documentation requirements.
- Ensure that all coding queries sent to healthcare providers are completed.
- Determine modifications to work flow to improve data quality.
**_Data Submission _**
- Responsible for submitting mandated DAD and NACRS L3 data to the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI).
- Responsible for submitting CIHI data to IDS BI Portal
**_Variance Analysis _**
- Review documentation and coding to identify opportunities to clarify missing or incomplete documentation.
- Analyze QBP and other reportable funding from coded data to ensure hospital is receiving optimal funding legitimately
**_Support _**
- Develop clinical documentation improvement strategies to promote and educate clinicians to ensure complete and accurate clinical documentation
- Support Health Information coding team
**Preferred Requirements**:
- Acute care hospital experience in a Health Records Department as a Data Quality or Health Information analyst demonstrating experience with clinical health records data will be given preference.
