Prince George, Canada Positive Living North Full time

**Number of hours: 37.5 hours (Monday - Friday from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm)**

**Responsible To**:Education Department Manager

**General Responsibilities and Expectations**:
1) Be familiar with and adhere to Positive Living North’s values, philosophy, mission statement, mandate, & policies and procedures.

2) Maintain confidentiality of all information acquired regarding Positive Living North operations and its members.

3) Be familiar with and adhere to appropriate governmental laws and regulations regarding workplace standards such as WCB, labor standards, Charter of Human Rights, privacy law etc

4) Build rapport with and support PLN members in a non-judgmental and non-exploitative way.

5) Complete appropriate training and professional development as required including PLN’s in-house training ex. Reducing Barriers Modules.

6) Keep personal calls, visits and business to a minimum during regular hours of operation.

7) Attend and participate in regularly-scheduled department and PLN staff meetings and other meetings as required.

8) Be committed to learning about communication, boundaries, and when to ask for support.

9) Be open to exploring social issues (like racism and homophobia) and how beliefs can affect job performance.

10) Cultivate personal characteristics that contribute to a healthy, dynamic team.

11) Represent PLN and your department to other service providers, in a positive manner in keeping with PLN’s philosophies and mandate.

**Specific Duties**:
1) Facilitate educational programming and presentations on HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs, Healthy Relationships & Consent, Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity, Addictions, Harm Reduction, Navigating Historical Trauma and Cultural Safety in a knowledgeable and skilled manner.

2) Facilitate appropriate education training opportunities on the above-mentioned themes for staff, volunteers, and board members of PLN.

1) Research current and relevant information on the above-mentioned themes to ensure accurate information is disseminated.

2) Assess the need for educational programs and assist in curriculum and resource development for priority populations and target audiences.

3) Network within the community to raise awareness of the PLN educational services available.

4) Network with other HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs Educators, resource centres, non-profit organizations and allied professionals.

5) Maintain an adequate supply of educational resources on HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs and related issues. Order resources from CATIE when necessary.

7) Monitor and Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and activities.

8) Ensure that evaluation tools developed are implemented to garner feedback from the target audience receiving presentation or resource tools. Regularly follows the new scientific and community developments on HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs and related knowledge products and shares the new knowledge within PLN as needed.

9) Participate fully, **in a cooperative and collaborative manner**, as a team member, and work in conjunction with other PLN departments in the provision of HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs and related education activities.

10) Complete any additional duties requested by the Education manager or Executive Director.

**Knowledge & Skills required**

1) Graduate-level or Diploma-level education and experience in social sciences, health sciences, community development or a related discipline or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

2) Exceptional knowledge related to HIV/AIDS, HCV, STBBIs and overall Sexual & Reproductive Health.

3) Research skills and experience in identifying, gathering, evaluating, interpreting and synthesizing information from external sources, particularly scientific and medical journals and online databases.

4) Must be able to work effectively with populations that have experienced vulnerability, trauma, economic poverty, substance use, development delays, severe mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, literacy issues, and/or other diverse conditions or situations.

5) Must be comfortable working with the 2SLGBTIQA+ population and settings where the 2SLGTIBQA+ population frequents.

6) Must be able to comfortably deliver presentations on sensitive topics related to sexual and reproductive health, intergenerational trauma and addictions.

7) Ability to work from a risk/harm reduction perspective.

8) High level of empathy and compassion.

9) Prior Experience with support and advocacy for marginalized/at-risk populations is preferred.

10) Awareness of Indigenous history and culture is preferred.

11) Strong verbal communication skills in the English language, including presentation skills.

12) Strong English writing and editing skills in explaining complex information using clear and simple language.

13) Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities and work schedules to meet deadlines, and the ability to be tactful, discreet and sensitive to confidential matters.
