**Position Summary**:
As technical expert and lead, the incumbent is accountable for all of Seneca's IoT based edge computing strategy and infrastructure operations. The incumbent researches and evaluates new leading-edge products and technologies to ensure Seneca technology infrastructure continues to be class leading. Provides expert technical advice to enhance system security, improve performance, promote stability, increase functionality, and reduce operating costs. Keeps up to date with the latest trends combined with a wide range of the College business and ensures accurate assessment of the ramification of changes in one area affecting other areas of the College. Conducts performance evaluations and standards to ensure quality customer service for all infrastructure services for the entire College operations. Effectively communicate with team members to ensure issues are managed, escalation processes are applied when needed, and schedules are planned, tested, executed, and validated.

**Responsibilities**:
**Accountable for the establishment and maintenance of Servers, Storage and Backup**
- Researches, evaluates, demonstrates, and leads the implementation of new technologies related to Internet of things driven edge computing, Smart Campus, Operational infrastructure technologies, and related areas. Defines needs requirements to meet College needs aligning with the defined College architecture and infrastructure development.
- Leads the design, development, installation, and maintenance of the above initiatives.
- Ensures the Services are continuously available and are restored quickly after outages. Rapid resolution requires extensive analysis and coordination of activities across all ITS teams, other departments in Seneca, and external vendors.
- Reviews and tracks daily alerts for abnormality. Ensures that work efforts are in place for escalation and problem resolution.
- Plans, designs, and recommends direction for the selection of vendors' tools as well as for the installation and operation of the equipment to ensure that standards and project deadlines are met.
- Provides expert technical advice to maximize the use and results, i.e., enhance system security, improve performance, promote stability, increase functionality, reduce operating costs.
- Plans and implements hardware and software upgrades to keep services in compliance with external contracts and agreements.
- Recommends changes to the framework, methods, standards, and related material based on college requirements.
- Conducts performance evaluations and standards to ensure quality customer service.
- In coordination with the Director, develops and assists in the control of CapEx and OpEx budgets.
- Establishes and maintains a central repository of all servers, storage, and service credentials. Ensures efficient operation of all services by monitoring access methods and performance and scheduling maintenance upgrades specifying operational standards and benchmarks.
- Keeps up to date with the latest trends combined with a wide range of the College business. and ensures accurate assessment of the ramification of changes in one area affecting other areas of the College.
- A member of the CAB (Change Advisory Board) to review all ITS changes submitted through the RFC process.

**Staff Supervision & General Administration**
- Acts as facilitator/mediator to assist the parties in reaching a satisfactory resolution.
- Leads the Edge Computing and Operations team to mentor staff on technology and techniques for better infrastructure design and efficiency.
- Manages and provides direction and workload assignments to Team members to allow the Director to function efficiently and effectively.
- Provides direction and oversees financial and HR related matters that are required to complete to adhere to policies and protocol at ITS.
- Hires, manages, and assigns tasks to contract staff and co-op students.
- Generates and administers all related human resources paperwork e.g., invoices, time sheets, attendance records, payroll, and related administrative tasks for contractors and co-op student.
- Maintains a high level of performance through recruiting, selecting, training, developing, and evaluating staff in the department.
- Monitors and maintains the departmental budget.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- Minimum completed three (3) year college diploma or undergraduate university degree in Computer Science or equivalent is required at the point of hire into this position.
