Your Role

This is a position of special responsibility and will be filled by competition. The temporary term of this assignment may be renewed for up to three school years and will be confirmed prior to the Spring staffing process for the following school year.

Assists teachers and EA’s to differentiate instruction for learners with special needs (Categories A, C, D, G, K) in regular classrooms;
Assists in identifying student strengths and needs;
Assists with determining appropriate goals and objectives on Individual Education Plans;
**Provides consultative support/mentorship to staff in**:
Functional curriculum;
Social thinking and social skills training;
Sensory management strategies;
Life skills programming;
Functional based assessments, behaviour support plans (BSP) and Functional Behavioural Assessments (FBA);
Toileting and self-help programming;
Assists in identifying materials and equipment required for student programs

Provides training for classroom teachers and Education Assistants in the use of assistive technology

Provides/arranges in-service regarding inclusion issues;
Models and provides information regarding inclusive practices;
Facilitates transitions from preschool to kindergarten, grade to grade, elementary to secondary

Coordinates and provides weekly supervision of the Friday Therapeutic Swim Program for students with low incidence special education needs attending with their education assistants; and

Acts as local District Partner for the Ministry of Education Provincial Outreach Program

Your Education and Experience

A Master’s degree in Special Education, Counselling Psychology, or related field

Bachelor of Education or equivalent

BC Teacher Regulation Branch certification

Additional Requirements

Experience and training related to school settings; and

Proof of clinical supervision, training, and experience in writing reports with appropriate school-based recommendations.
