Shawano Management is seeking a motivated, experienced, and energetic individual for our organization to fill the role of Cook. The position is located at The Southeast Wellness Lodge located at 225 Masters Ave in the RM of West St. Paul, 5mins drive North of Winnipeg.
Under the supervision of the Head Chef, the Cook ensures a kitchen runs smoothly and effectively. They also keep track of kitchen inventory and promote food safety. They maintain cleanliness and order, manage other employees, serve as liaison officers between the kitchen and Servers, and ensure their workplace is compliant with local safety standards.
**Duties and responsibilities**:
- Taking orders from the wait staff and preparing food according to customer preference
- Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and order
- Training staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of foods
- Monitoring and managing cooking tools and ingredients
- Making adjustments to accommodate clients with specific diet and health concerns
- Setting up the workstation
- Developing recipes that comply with company policy
- All other related duties assigned by your supervisor and the leadership of the Lodge.
**Qualifications**:
- A high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent.
- Experience in using different cooking tools, equipment, and utensils.
- Expert knowledge of various cooking methods and procedures.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Understanding of food preparation techniques.
- Able to withstand long hours of standing, bending, and moving around.
- Basic knowledge of mathematics to make correct measurements of ingredients
- Ability to follow recipe instructions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and willing to travel.
**Working conditions**:
- Must possess reliable transportation, including meeting the requirement(s) to visit remote First Nations by many forms of transportation as required. Intermittent travel may be required to liaise with employees in other office locations and to attend meetings.
- Must have access to a reliable insured vehicle and valid Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Generally, work in an office environment - fast paced and busy at times.
- Work a standard work week of 40hrs.
- Additional hours beyond the standard regular hours of work may be required.
**Physical requirements**:
- Overall, Strength Demands: Medium strength demands include exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds at times, and or up to 10 pounds some of the time.
- Repetitive desk tasks in an at times fast paced/busy environment.
