Overall Accountability

The Manager, Construction is responsible for overseeing the design, tendering, construction and commissioning of all capital projects. The Manager assists in the administration of the Infrastructure Maintenance Renewal (IMR), Capital Maintenance and Renewal (CMR), and upgrading budgets.

Specific Accountabilities

Reviews detailed design drawings and specifications to ensure Calgary Catholic standards and requirements are maintained
- Manages the tendering, construction, monitoring, and reporting related to the IMR/CMR funding from Alberta Infrastructure; ensures Provincial and Federal guidelines are met
- Estimates the costs of projects; ensures all required permits are in place prior to the start of a construction project; approves all change orders associated with construction projects; certifies all construction draws for payment; maintains controls on projects by keeping statistics, records and projecting future cost
- Provides input to the decision-making process for acquisition of new school sites
- Designs and administers renovation projects and new construction projects

Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering or Architecture
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in the construction, tendering, administration, and maintenance of commercial and institutional facilities, including direct field experience.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years in a leadership capacity, managing construction projects and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Registration with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer, or registered as an Architect with the Alberta Association of Architects.
- Valid Alberta driver's license and a vehicle in good operating condition
- Comprehensive knowledge of all building, and health and safety codes, contract administration, and elements of architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical design
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office; experience with project planning and maintenance management software preferred- Detailed working knowledge of heating and ventilation systems, and related controls, indoor air quality standards, and equipment operations;
- Effective communication, negotiation, analytical, problem solving and report writing skills
