**Job Details**

**Position Title**: Assistant Program Head of Media and Communication Studies
**Status**: Full-Time Administration
**Hours**: 37.5 hours weekly
**Faculty/Department**: University of Guelph-Humber, Media and Communication Studies
**Campus/Location**: North Campus/hybrid work environment requiring a minimum of three days per week on campus (in person).
**Salary**: Adm 05 - $81,106 - $121,659

**What you will do**:
The Assistant Program Head in partnership with the Program Head ensures exceptional academic standards and the highest quality student experience. Reporting to the Program Head of Media and Communication Studies, the Assistant Program Head provides academic and administrative support to the program. This position involves teaching, curriculum development, development and coordination of faculty and instructors, liaison with other programs and departments at the University of Guelph-Humber and external partners, and supervision of student research.

**Experience and Skills**
- A proven track record teaching in a post-secondary program.
- Minimum five years' of professional work experience in a field directly related to the program discipline/s.
- Demonstrated management and administrative capability, preferably within the university, public or education sectors.
- Recent experience working to support the needs of a diverse undergraduate student body would be an asset. Demonstrated success in achieving outcomes is essential.
- An educator with a strong commitment to pedagogy, student engagement and curricular excellence.
- Demonstrated experience supporting curriculum planning and academic program delivery.
- Excellent awareness and a commitment to considering equity, diversity, and inclusion in decision making, and communication approaches.
- Service experience, particularly in management roles, within a post-secondary setting.
- The ability to prioritize and respond to situations in a timely manner and mediate conflicting interests.
- A high standard of professionalism in personal interactions with staff, faculty, and students, and instill, by example, an expectation of high standards in colleagues.
- The ability to remain impartial when dealing with students, faculty, staff, especially in reviewing academic matters.
- The ability to delegate, motivate, and provide opportunities for others.
- A high level of emotional intelligence.

**Activities**:

- Assist with departmental activities that promote student success and alumni engagement.
- Support the quality assurance processes within the university by administering a continuous curriculum improvement strategy.
- Aid the department’s curriculum committee to strengthen the academic program through curricular innovation and renewal.
- Implement recommendations for the Indigenization of the university’s curriculum.
- Work to enhance university presence internationally by promoting opportunities for domestic students.
- Develop and implement initiatives to support equity, inclusion, and diversity.
- Represent the university on a variety of campus committees.
- Advocate for, and provide mentorship to, staff, faculty, and students, as appropriate.
- Support recruitment and placement activities.
- Resolve collaboratively program administrative issues.
- Advance initiatives to enhance the program, experiential learning, and career readiness.
- Participate in Student Life and orientation activities throughout the year.
- Support the Program Head in the management of staffing, budget, and financial resources related to the program.
