Building Inspector

**Position Overview**
The company Building Inspector / Quality Control Specialist inspects the construction and maintenance of new and existing building to ensure that specifications and building codes are observed and monitors work site safety. Ensures the quality of the site installations is consistent with the company's policy requirements together with national and international standards and the customer’s specifications.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
- Work with architect prior to construction to examine plans and prepare for quality audits in advance
- Examine plans, drawings, and site layouts for new buildings, building renovations and other proposed structures
- Coordinate with the site construction manager on all quality issues
- Ensure all quality control documentation is compiled and presented for as-built hand over to Design Group for future reference
- Work with Project Managers to assist and implement the QA/QC management system on site
- Create critical times inspection schedule
- Coordinate quality inspections with all the Site Supervisors
- Coordinate with the customer’s representative on all quality matters
- Distribute relevant QA/QC documentation to Site Supervisors and Project Managers
- Verify that the quality related site activities are in accordance with the applicable codes, standards and approved architectural plans
- Participate in internal and external site audits
- Schedule and execute all the quality site inspections, electrical, plumbing, sewer systems and pipelines to ensure compliance with municipal, provincial and federal regulations
- Inspect steel framework, concrete forms, reinforcing steel mesh and rods, concrete or pre-stressed concrete to ensure quality standards and conformance to specifications and building codes
- Control all non-conformance reports
- Administer site quality control instructions
- Review the customer’s specification
- Monitor the implementation of the approved site QC Plan
- Complete and coordinate the approval of the sites QC technical submittals to the customer
- Coordinate and chair any QA/QC meetings with the project’s personnel
- Assure all technical documents relative to site quality control are current.
- Ensure that workers on site comply with company policies and government safety regulations.
- Assist the health and safety team to ensure all health and safety remedial action is executed.
- Other duties as required.
**Requirements**:
- Technical college or university degree in construction, civil engineering or architectural technology
- 3-8 years of experience as Construction QC
- 3-8 years of experience in health and safety
- 3-8 years of experience as a qualified tradesperson in a construction trade, such as plumbing, carpentry or electrical trade
- JHSC certification level 2
- Construction sector specific training certification
- Traffic control, WHMIS, first aid, fall arrest, asbestos, trenching, propane, forklift, EWP, scaffolding, and excavation certifications an asset
- High level of communication - both verbal and written
- High level of leadership and presentation skills
**Salary**: $37.02 per hour
