**DUTIES**:
In consultation with the Director and other department staff, the incumbent promotes, develops, co-ordinates and delivers career development services to students and graduates. The incumbent conducts career education classes, performs individual coaching to facilitate entry in the workplace. The incumbent also participates on campus-wide committees to enhance our graduates’ career development and success. In addition, the incumbent promotes graduates and programs to employers while ensuring productive working relationships with business and industry.

**Student and Graduate Support**:

- Career Development coaching requires sensitivity and active listening skills, along with the ability to question without judgement, especially when working with students who are discouraged or have identified barriers to reaching their career goals.
- Coach students and graduates on an individual basis, and in group settings, presenting them with the options and avenues available in order to succeed in their pursuit of employment.
- Identify barriers to employment and consult with other service departments and community resources and refer individuals as appropriate.
- Research employment trends and advise students with respect to job search strategies and labour market information.
- Assist individuals in the development of job readiness skills/tools (cover letter, resume, portfolio, etc.) and job search strategies including the appropriate use of social media sites such as LinkedIn.
- Coach students to increase self-confidence and improve possibility of positive connections with employers.
- Prepare students with interview techniques specific to their industry.
- Conduct mock interviews with students and provide feedback on their strengths and areas for development.
- Plan, promote and execute career development activities outside of class time related to economic trends such as employer panels, customized workshops, and alumni networking events.
- Research current labour market information, industry and workplace trends and incorporate information into conversations with students and stakeholders.
- Utilize adult learning theories and student development theories, strong presentation skills and emerging technology to communicate relevant career development concepts to students and alumni.

**Faculty and Academic Support**:

- Customize career education seminars to coincide with academic curriculum and industry expectations.
- Deliver career education seminars in all full-time (day) post-secondary programs to increase job readiness skills presenting variety of career related topics including career exploration, resumes, networking, job search strategies, interviewing skills, mentoring/networking, workplace professional skills etc. (class sizes range between five to 100 students)
- Support the initiatives of key campus partners through collaboration and sharing resources to determine career development strategies and appropriate level of support for programs
- Understand and utilize emerging career development theories, simulated learning activities to implement with students.

**Employer Support**:

- In collaboration with the Career Development Outreach Co-ordinator, initiate connections with visiting employers at job fairs, information sessions, and events on and off campus.
- Provide information to employers about post-secondary programs by suggesting suitable programs to target, facilitating campus tours and by arranging meetings with faculty.
- Maintain and build relationships with employers and other members of workplace community that build resources and programs to support student and graduate career development and learning.

**Marketing**:

- Represent Career Development at student outreach activities such as, college open houses, and orientation days
- Promote Career Development to students, graduates, faculty, staff and employers through various media and face-to-face interactions

**Administration**:

- Participate with the Director and other departmental staff in the development of long and short-term priorities, goals and strategies as well as other special projects as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Three year diploma/degree in Career and Work Practitioner, Human Resources, Social Services or a related field.
- Minimum of three years’ professional experience with excellent student service orientation; career development knowledge; career coaching and advising (with post-secondary students is an asset).
- Progressive experience in student services, career coaching, human resources,
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario Employment Standards Act and employer recruitment standards and practices.
- Knowledge of all college programs, student support services and success strategies.
- Demonstrated initiative and excellent judgement. Maintaining confidentiality and integrity are essential.
