School District 72 is looking for a **Temporary Childcare Support Worker** to join our team of professionals at **Cedar** Elementary School** who strive to bring the district's learning beliefs to life.

School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.

**About the Role**

Childcare Support Worker reports to the District Principal, Childcare & Early Learning. The role of the Childcare Support Worker is to provide one-on-one support to a 1-2 child(ren) participating in before and after school care at the district facility.

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Provide one-on-one support to 1-2 child(ren) with diverse needs. Must remain in child's proximity at all times.**:

- Participate in age-appropriate activities with the child, modelling language both verbally and using communication devices.
- Guide and assist the child in activities while fostering and encouraging positive social interactions among students.**:

- Support and guide the child in learning program schedules, routine and following group plans. Prepare child for transitions to/from school.**:

- Provide positive behaviour support utilizing communication skills to diffuse escalated behaviours (e.g. defiance, emotional outbursts, disengagements, etc.), reporting any extreme or unusual incidents to the supervisor.**:

- Ensuring a safe environment for child by avoiding triggers that may escalate behaviours and implementing recognized behaviour management techniques.**:

- Promoting personal health and hygiene by assisting with toileting, feeding, and general cleanliness; assisting with the administration of student medication as indicated on medical forms, under the District Principal's direction as required; ensuring students adhere to medial routines and/or special diets.**:

- Establish positive working relationships with staff, community partners, families, and children.**:

- Ensure all accidents/incidents are recorded and reported in a timely manner to the District Principal, Childcare & Early Learning.**:

- Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.**:

- Adhere to policies and procedures, including safety requirements and emergency preparedness.**:

- Establish reasonable behaviour expectations consistent with the centre's policies and program objectives.**:

- Understand and act in accordance with relevant policies and procedures from the school, district, Ministry of Education, Child Care Licensing Regulation, and WorkSafeBC.**:

- Performs other duties as assigned.**

**Bring your Expertise**
- Grade 12 diploma plus completion of Responsible Adult Course, or the completion of a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Must be at least 19 years of age in accordance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulations.
- A valid Emergency First Aid - Community Care Certification.
- A minimum of 1 year of recent experience working with youth and children or an equivalent combination of training and experience working with children or youth.
- Demonstrated evidence of strong communication skills (verbal, written and electronic formats) using tact, discretion, and diplomacy, while maintaining confidentiality in matters related to the school district.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with colleagues, parents, and children.
- Ability to use judgement to select appropriate courses of action within the limits of established methods and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
