Job Requirements

**KEY OBJECTIVE**:
The Financial Institutions Leader is responsible for building and maintaining a high-performance culture dedicated toward achieving established goals related to profitable growth, customer service, and maintaining producer relationships for Financial Institution products in Canada. This position will primarily be responsible for leadership of the underwriting team and managing Financial Institutions new business production and a renewal book of business. This position will be report to the EVP, Financial Lines in Toronto, ON.

**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Production
Proven new business and renewal track record. Demonstrated ability to develop and grow broker/producer relationships.
Market focus, strategy deployment, and execution - develops opportunities particular to the marketplace and provides customized approaches on market conditions and broker needs, works closely with field operations on the development and execution of marketing strategy.
Participates in Major Accounts sales / pipeline and staff meetings.
Able to anticipate and adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities.
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make expedient and sound decisions.
Strong track record in negotiating and building collaborative relationships while delivering timely quality service to internal and external customers.
Directs business development activities and provides guidance for implementing sales and/or product launches.
Liaises with North American business tower teams as is necessary.
Creates a strong external network of Centres of Influence and brokers that translates into real business value and growth (through public speaking, article writing, customer / broker sales distribution/meetings etc.) and proven ability to provide producers with education on the lines of business.

People
Staff administration, including recruitment, retention, development, and performance management. Includes communicating clear objectives and holding individuals and team accountable for achieving results along with coaching and supporting development opportunities to enhance staff effectiveness.
Proven team leadership and people management skills, including the ability to motivate staff and inspire a sense of purpose around successfully achieving organizational objectives.
Visible and credible business partner within Financial Lines across the organization. Key relationships with home office and branch colleagues in place.
Anticipating staffing needs; developing creative solutions for adequate backup during absences and peak production times.

Product
Provide the Canadian perspective to global product managers to assist them in understanding the nuances of our market, legal system and loss experience.
Portfolio management owner in collaboration with US product management, Canadian division leader and Canadian product manager
Underwriting Strategy / Playbook owner with responsibly for all aspects of execution.
Proven ability to draft language efficiently and effectively for Endorsements, Applications, and engagement in product development as a member of internal drafting teams in collaboration with GC and US & Canada product management, as required.
Technical underwriting / referral resource - in collaboration with product management, serves as technical resource for referrals and underwriting authority.
Delegator of Underwriting Authority for assigned lines of business in Canada.
Proficiency in Financial Lines products, technologies, and processes.

P&L
P&L Accountability (production, weekly forecasting, monthly/quarterly financial reporting, planning, expense management).
Ability to lead and implement strategy changes as required to be responsive to the market and profitability of the lines of business.

Process
Responsibility for both self-audit and corporate underwriting audit in business tower.
Business owner representative for IT initiatives in support of the lines of business in collaboration with Canadian product manager.
Collaborates with and creates a positive working environment for internal stakeholders to support lines of business (Executive, Claims, Actuary, General Counsel, Compliance, Marketing, Finance, Operations, IT, Group Program Teams, Multinational Teams, and other Underwriting Teams in FL and P&C lines, as well as with other Product Managers and Field Operations).

Work Experience

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Bachelor’s degree required; Business, Commerce, Economics or Finance focus preferred.
8+ years of Financial Lines underwriting or similar industry experience and demonstrated expertise in handling complex accounts.
Advanced knowledge of Financial Institutions and Financial Lines business and insurance industry theories and practices.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency for competencies including a track record of results achievement, customer development, collaboration, teamwork, problem solving, and communication and marketing/negotiation ski
