The Toronto Military Family Resource Centre, MFRC, is a community-based, charitable organization focused on the delivery of services, resources and supports to the military and Veteran family community throughout the Greater Toronto Area. We are located in the area of Downsview Park in North York, and are easily accessible by public transit with free parking on site.

**Role Description**

The **Family Counsellor** delivers single-session interventions and short term counselling support to families of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel. They provide family case management, resource coordination and advocacy for families requiring specialized services within the community. They support families in person or remotely through virtual means, in one-on-one, couple, family or group settings.

This is a full-time, permanent, bargaining unit position, classified at Level 3.

**Primary Responsibilities**

The Family Counsellor will:

- Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, to provide single-session interventions and/or short term counselling (1 - 3 sessions) to individuals (children, youth, adults), couples, families and groups, addressing issues associated with the military family lifestyle and family journey challenges, in line with the Military Family Services (MFS) Mental Health Services Framework and strategic direction; this could include, but is not limited to, relationship issues, family dysfunction, family violence, substance use, mental health and wellness, suicide ideation;
- Provide case management, coordinate and provide referral and advocacy for clients requiring specialized and professional services within the community;
- Support/counsel families in crisis or imminent crisis;
- Support families in person or virtually in one on one, couple, family or group environments, as required;
- Identify, assess and address gaps in the provision of family services;
- Facilitate preventative mental health and lifestyle management programs, psychoeducation workshops and services to assist CAF families experiencing military lifestyle challenges;
- Provide information briefings to families, the CAF community, other stakeholders and partner organizations pertinent to understanding and addressing family mental health needs;
- Participate in monthly group/individual clinical supervision sessions, and regular team/unit meetings;
- Serve as a member of the Family Violence Advisory Team (FVAT);
- Document client information and activities within Customer Relationship Management system (i.e., Penelope);
- Demonstrate a high level of diligence with respect to record keeping and protection of sensitive, confidential information;
- Participate in program/service development, data collection, evaluation and continuous quality improvement activities;
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and maintain good standing with professional regulatory body (i.e. OCSWSSW);
- Work collaboratively with team members and all levels of leadership;
- Participate in budget and resource development for relevant service areas.

**Required Qualifications**
- University degree in mental health field (i.e. Social Work, Counselling);
- Current registration in good standing, with professional association/regulatory body (i.e. OCSWSSW);
- 2 years of related clinical experience serving families from strengths and resiliency based and trauma informed perspectives;
- Clear Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Search and Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance (facilitated by employer);
- Verbal and written proficiency in English language.
