**About us**

**Job description**

Because the lab is small (10 people), the role involves a little bit of everything, inculding: (1) organizational tasks, (2) support for research projects, and (3) animal husbandry. Some duties will be regular (occurring on a weekly or monthly basis), while others will occur as-needed. The specific duties of the role include:
1) Organizational tasks:

- Keep track of the stock of office and laboratory supplies and re-order as needed.
- Distribute shared tasks fairly amongst lab members (i.e. cleaning the lab or office, training animals, etc.).
- Coordinate the replacement/repair equipment, as needed.
- Welcome new personnel and helping them through the onboarding process.
- Help students navigate the University’s systems as needed.
- Maintain lab documentation (i.e. standard operating procedures, the lab manual).
- Maintain the lab’s human and animal protocols (adding and removing members, submitting revisions, etc.)
- Scheduling meetings and other events, maintaining the lab calendar.

2) Support for research projects:

- Be a point of contact between the lab and veterinary care staff.
- Manage data collection in the human psychophysics lab.
- Assist with data collection in the animal lab.
- Train new research staff on laboratory equipment and procedures.
- Coordinate the purchasing of equipment and supplies needed for experiments.
- Attend weekly lab meetings.

2) Animal husbandry:

- Help ensure that our lab complies with all ethical and regulatory guidelines.
- Coordinate with veterinary staff to ensure that animals receive high-quality care.
- Provide enrichment and mental stimulation to the animals.
- Take the lead on projects like introducing new animals to the lab, pair-housing animals, or developing new enrichment strategies.
- Coordinate with counterparts in other labs as needed (i.e. to schedule the use of shared equipment, fill in when people are on vacation, etc.)

**Basic Qualifications**:

- College Diploma (DCS) or Associate’s degree.
- Fluency in English and French, both written and verbal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Evidence of successfully executing independent projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented working style.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- BA/BSc, MSc, or PhD in a field related to biology or psychology.
- Experience working with animals (preferably large mammals).
- Coursework or a strong interest in animal behavior.
- Experience working in a research laboratory.
