Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance & Corporate Services, the Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting, payroll and clearing functions and providing leadership, direction and guidance to the finance team. The incumbent leads the preparation of monthly financial statements, annual budget, year-end closing process and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and operational policies and procedures.

- Support the VP, Finance & Corporate Services in the development of corporate strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analysis, and recommendations to better inform business decisions.
- Manage the risk and control environment related to the organization's accounting operations, including the development and ongoing maintenance of a documented system of relevant accounting policies and procedures and appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls.
- Oversee the work of the finance team including but not limited to accounts payable; payroll; clearing; posting and maintenance of general ledger and subsidiary accounts; third-party finance support. Provide direction and guidance to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, optimal delivery of member service and internal efficiencies.
- Provide regular coaching and mentoring to reinforce positive behaviours and support the achievement of business objectives. Conduct regular department meetings to ensure the team is well informed of changes to policies and procedures, company direction, objectives, and important developments.
- Coordinate and manage the activities of direct reports in the delivery of optimal internal and external member service. Responsibilities include but not limited to participating in the development of a sales and service culture and supporting learning and development opportunities.
- Manage the year-end close process and oversee the delivery of all supporting information for the corresponding year-end audit, including the annual financial statements and note disclosures in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) guidelines.
- Maintain internal expertise to address complex accounting and reporting matters especially related to financial instruments (IFRS 9), including expected credit losses, securitization accounting, financial instrument classification, measurement, derecognition, and hedge accounting.
- Continuously monitor IFRS and regulatory releases to proactively prepare for future financial and regulatory reporting requirements; lead the evaluation and adoption of new accounting and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Oversee and lead the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports, including budget to actual variance analysis, and complete regulatory reporting as required.
- Coordinate the preparation of the annual corporate operating and capital budgets for all branches and administration, including financial forecasts, and complete the consolidated budget.
- Serve as the liaison with system partners, regulators and auditors. Build, manage and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
- Interact with all levels of the organization; provide support in achieving corporate-wide initiatives and championing innovation, process modernization, a diverse and inclusive culture and superior member experience.
- Promote the credit union’s image in the community through attendance and participation in community organizations and events. Volunteer and support community initiatives, projects and events.

- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA).
- A minimum of seven years related experience including a minimum of three years in a leadership role, preferably in a financial institution; or an equivalent combination of training and
