**We are a busy/growing business and today, we have an immediate opening for a Property Rebuild Desk Estimator (soon to be two) Rather than offer a Job Description and a set of requirements/qualifications that you would be expected to match, we present a typical “Day In the Life Of ” scenario of a resource who would hold that position within the Paul Davis Ottawa location. Though it is not a testimony of a current employee, we present it in the First Person - believing that it is an accurate representation of what our Property Rebuild Estimators go through daily.**
- I start my day with a daily ZOOM call where each member of the Estimating team presents a status update on all the projects that have been assigned to us. Today, I gave an update on where I am with the 8 projects, I am currently building estimates for. As it stands, I am on track to deliver most of them within the expected 5-day lifecycle but there are a couple that is frustrating me._
- I don’t understand some of the details that came with a couple of the assignments and I’m going to have to call the scoping team and have them walk through what is really going on at that loss site. The 3-D imaging and reports package I am expected to write my estimate from aren’t clear. Hopefully, they can explain it to me or provide me with a few more details/pictures to sort it out. Otherwise, I’m going to have to take a run over to the job site and see what’s going on for myself. Not a huge deal but each trip does eat up some of my time. I need to do it though because my estimates are expected to hit margins, so anything that is not included will negatively impact that._
- Seems like I must do a site visit but before I head out, I’ll review the client protocol/estimating rules to ensure my estimates properly reflect them and then jump into Xactimate and pound out 2-3 draft estimates so that I can send them to the Project Managers and hopefully get some feedback during tomorrow morning’s project review meeting._
- I have a personal appointment today at 3:00 p.m. but it isn’t consequential to anyone related to our company - given that I am not really tied to a desk or a clock. In proving my loyalty and delivering on the promises of all I am accountable for, I have earned the trust to run my own schedule and timetable. Management has expressed confidence in me knowing that I will make up the time and deliver results, as expected._
- If I am to engage with my company and provide extraordinary care while serving people in their time of need, I strive to maintain discipline in tracking my performance scorecard and ramp up my level of effort if my performance indicators show that I am lagging. Paul Davis is not a typical construction company and much of the work we do has an emergency element attached to it. In my role, the majority of estimates I write are related to restoring residential/commercial/institutional properties that have suffered damages caused by water, fire, wind, and numerous other perils. It is imperative to me that I perform my work with a sense of urgency to help restore properties and lives._
- If challenges/missing details have gotten in the way of meeting my deliverables, I will present them to the team tomorrow during our ZOOM call. The team is great at sharing information and coaching each other through the challenges of complex structures._
