**Resilient Communities Research Co-op**
**Rate of Pay**: $25/ hour

**This opportunity is provided through Simon Fraser University, funded by the **Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS).**
**About the role**
The goal of the project is to co-develop with three to five Indigenous and rural communities replicable frameworks to enhance and mobilize community capacity that helps inform needed regulatory and policy change in housing policy and safety regulation for technical systems in British Columbia, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and reduce the risks associated with climate change and other natural hazards.
The Resilient Communities Researcher will focus on research, project management, and community engagement. This will include jurisdictional scans, literature reviews, and in-person or virtual interviews, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, documentation and reporting as well as presentation of findings, engagement and communication with participants, and the maintenance of project management platforms.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience**:
- Current enrollment in a program in climate resiliency, public policy, climate change and sustainability, engineering, resource and environmental management, Indigenous studies, or equivalent.
- A broad knowledge of climate change and climate solutions, including low-carbon resiliency strategies.
- A broad knowledge or lived experience in Indigenous Reconciliation principles and instruments, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.
- Familiarity/experience with innovative policy development and agile regulation
- A high degree of Indigenous cultural competency and demonstrated familiarity with the principles of appropriate engagement with Indigenous Peoples.
- Preference may be given to an Indigenous student.
- Ability to travel and spend time with partner communities to build relationships
- Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing and presenting a variety of communication and briefing materials in a format appropriate for the intended audience
- Excellent skills in research and community engagement, including interviews, as well as analysis and evaluation of qualitative and quantitative information
- Knowledge of project management fundamentals and/or experience with project management tools
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneDrive, OneNote, Teams), project/content management software (e.g. Confluence, Drupal, MS Project)
- Ability to positively represent Technical Safety BC, and the project team, at meetings
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with project partners, internal and external stakeholders and right holders, conflict resolution abilities
- Ability to break down complex ideas, synthesize, and present information in a clear, concise and engaging manner
- Ability to organize own workload effectively, efficiently and independently, achieving results within acceptable timeframe
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
