The expected pay range for this position is $83,182 per annum.

Job Summary:
The Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences does world-class research aimed at understanding the fundamental workings of cells and organisms in an effort to identify the underlying causes of human diseases. The Department’s research is diverse, with Investigators working in a wide range of the leading invertebrate and vertebrate model systems and using biochemical, molecular genetic, cellular and physiological approaches. The Department has particular strengths in neuroscience, endocrinology, development and cancer. The robust collaborative spirit between the Department’s Investigators drives increasingly multidisciplinary research programs in each laboratory. This includes the incorporation of the latest technologies in molecular biology, genetics, next-generation genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and genetically-engineered animal models to complement our expertise in cell biological and physiology. The research in the Department is also strengthened by our use of advanced imaging capabilities that includes EM, super-resolution, 2-photon, live-cell and high-throughput microscopy. Research in the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences is providing insight into the fundamental biological processes and pathologies that lie behind many diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, to name just a few.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Designs, modifies and performs complex experiments and systems and/or uses technically advanced procedures and conducts complex analysis and interpretation.- Develops and writes novel animal care and biosafety protocols and develops safety procedures.- Troubleshoots complex equipment and systems problems.- Operates and maintains highly specialized equipment requiring extensive training.- Manages and oversees the daily operations and finances of a laboratory or technical operation for a department, including responsibility for budget, large purchase recommendations, inventory, forecasting and maintenance of financial reports, administration of staff.- Develops operating procedures and makes recommendation on workflow improvements.- Oversees the progress of projects and participates in complex research activities.- Provides instruction and training in the use of specialized techniques and equipment.- Researches and determines the applicability of new technology and systems related to work.-
- Supervises, schedules and trains staff and may make recommendations with respect to hiring and providing input into staff performance.- Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.- Maintains rodent colonies.- Maintains detailed budgeting and safety records.- Develops standardized lab protocols.- Coordinates training and reagents with other labs.
