- Work effectively with the Yard Supervisor/ Foreman and Store Manager

General management of yard
- Assist with items such as: Supervising, training and motivating yard staff to ensure prompt, courteous and efficient customer service
- Assist with hiring yard staff and providing training and orientation for all new hires
- Monitor maintenance records for all equipment including forklifts, saws, lifting devices, delivery vehicles etc.
- Assist with the Development of staff work schedules to ensure efficient yard operation
- Aide in conducting yard inventory counts both cyclical and for year-end inventory
- Ensure all paperwork is accurate, complete and up to date; ensure customers sign for receipt of goods
- Assist with filing delivery orders and loading trucks as required; provide back-up assistance for delivery orders as demand dictates; ensure all delivery orders are shipped and receipted
- Monitor and maintain correct yard inventory levels and complete timely product tallies as required
- Maintain proper yard organization and clean up as per company standards
- Act as Yard Foreman (back-up) when require
- Keep the work area clean and tidy
- Comply with Moffatt and Powell policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by management

Customer Service
- Provide professional customer service experience, in accordance with company standards
- Responsible for working within company policies and procedures to provide leading customer service
- Co-ordinate and work with outside sales as well as inside sales associates

Training & Development
- Assist to supervise, train and motivate yard staff to ensure prompt, courteous and efficient customer service
- Assist with the Hiring, training and orientation of new associates
- Build awareness of existing and new products and services supplied by the company and competitors

Performance Management
- Hold yourself accountable to the Values of Moffatt and Powell demonstrating attitudes and behavior that are a fit with the company and addressing those that are not in a timely and professional manner.
- Respect individuals and the needs of the company
- Assist Yard Foreman with yard staff performance assessments as required

Health & Safety
- Follows all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Health and Safety Handbook, Policy Manual and all other organization communication.
- Upholds Section 27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including but not limited to, ensuring safe work practices are adhered to by all team members and that safety training and personal protective equipment are available to all team members.
- Monitor and enforce safety and housekeeping standards
- Monitor and ensure all yard associates have the appropriate certification for vehicles and equipment
- Monitor and ensure all vehicles and warehouse are maintained and repaired
- Monitor and enforce yard security to protect company assets

WHAT ARE YOUR DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS?
- Lumber yard and/or customer service experience in a related industry an asset
- Forklift licence/experience preferred, but not required
- Excellent customer service with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Works well independently and makes well informed decisions
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to work days, evenings and weekends
- Physical ability to lift 50 to 80 lbs
- Exhibits a positive “can do” attitude
