**About the role**
The Consultation Advisor in the Lands, Resources and Consultations (LRC) Branch of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) provides support for consultations between the Northwestern Ontario Métis Community and government and/or industry representatives regarding proposed projects planned in Northwestern Ontario (MNO Region 1).
**What you will be doing**
- Provide technical support to the LRC Branch and the MNO’s Region 1 Consultation Committee (RCC) to identify potential impacts of the proposed projects on the Northwestern Ontario Métis community.
- Plan, organize and execute engagement activities / logistics with the RCC and the Northwestern Ontario Métis community, including organizing and facilitating consultation meetings, site tours and community information sessions etc., preparing agendas, briefings, briefing notes, reports and presentations, and leading meetings with RCCs, proponents, government officials, and the MNO Chartered Community Councils in MNO Region 1.
- Develop communication plans for the project, including the development of content, and plain speak communication tools, such as mail outs, website ads, and other communications for the Métis Community related to the project
- Oversee and engage in research; review and respond to internal questions on the project regulatory information, including but not limited to Terms of Reference, baseline studies and Environmental Assessments.
- Collaborate with staff and project consultants, including internal MNO staff, such as Education and Training Branch staff, for matters related to community engagement, employment, training, business and economic development opportunities, and capacity building related to the project. Assess community resources and needs; take an inventory of potential opportunities, identifying gaps and a plan to capture opportunities.
- Track and maintain detailed records related to activities and deliverables, such as:
- Meetings attended with communities, dates and locations;
- Meetings attended with other organizations, dates and locations;
- Issues discussed;
- List and description of initiatives that have been undertaken/addressed;
- Training undertaken by the Advisor; and
- General outcomes,
- Act as point of contact in office for community engagement.
- Provide regular updates to the LRC project team via summary reports and teleconference meetings.
- Travel to communities for meetings with the Regional Consultation Committee, government and/or industry representatives and/or community members as directed.
**What you will bring**
- Completion of post-secondary education in fields of environmental studies, environmental sciences, earth sciences, environmental engineering, resource development, nuclear safety or a related area, or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years’ experience in natural resources, environmental sectors or Indigenous legal, policy and research especially in respect of the federal and/or provincial government; some government policy or program experience is preferred.
- An understanding of regulatory processes, environmental issues and Indigenous issues or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn about these and other processes and issues quickly.
