Childrens Program Worker

**Position Summary**:
Under the direction of the Manager of Welcome House, this position will be responsible for planning and implementing a children’s program at Welcome House. The worker must ensure the safety of children, be respectful of parents & children. And also ensure that equipment & facilities are clean, safe and well maintained.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Children Program Worker will:
- Establish policies, procedures and implementation.
- Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities
- Provide and maintain a safe, secure and healthy environment
- Develop weekly and monthly schedules of “indoor, outdoor and field trips” activities
- Organize and Coordinate field trips
- Coordinate & work with volunteers
- Implement behavior management strategies according to age of child.
- Support the social and emotional development of children
- Keep parents informed of program expectations, activities and their child’s progress
- Develop and facilitate of interactive parent and child literacy activities
- Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care
- Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program
- Work cooperatively and effectively with Sage Youth
- Develop and maintain record keeping of children’s progress
- Monthly /Quarterly report
- Perform all other duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS**-
- Post-secondary degree in social work, child psychology.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in working with children or a similar role
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates excellent assessment skills and sound judgment in decision making.
- Knowledge of barriers facing marginalized, racialized, newcomer and refugee populations.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating workshops.
- Available to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- A valid Class G driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle is required.
- Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is highly desired. Fluency in Arabic, or other languages is an asset.
- Member in good standing with a related professional association or college is an asset.
- Training in mental health first aid, mental health strategies and CPR/first aid are assets.
