As a Friendship Centre, we work to strengthen connections to culture, community and wellness and work from a decolonizing perspective. Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Bookkeeper to join our finance team. As a Junior Bookkeeper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting various accounting functions. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is looking to kick-start their career in accounting and gain valuable experience in a dynamic and growing organization.
**Responsibilities**
- Record financial transactions accurately and timely into the accounting system.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including processing invoices, preparing payment vouchers, and tracking outstanding payments.
- Help maintain the general ledger by recording journal entries, categorizing expenses, and updating account balances.
- Support the tracking and reconciliation of company expenses, including reviewing expense reports and verifying receipts.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Provide support for payroll-related tasks, including maintaining employee records, calculating wages and deductions, and preparing payroll reports after 4 months of employment.
- Maintain organized physical or digital filing systems for financial documents.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external stakeholders to address inquiries and contribute to the overall financial operations of the organization.
- Assisting in filling, printing and other areas as needed.
**Requirements**:
- Bachelor's degree/Diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field (or currently pursuing a degree in these fields) would be an asset.
- Experience with Sage/Quickbooks and other Accounting softwares is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take initiative when necessary.
- Prior experience or internships in accounting or bookkeeping is a plus, but not required.
- Demonstrated focus and ability to work independently to complete work within deadlines
- Experience working in an office environment and managing confidential information with discretion.
