Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees. It is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations. Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

**The Opportunity**

We are currently seeking an **Operational Excellence Manager - North Atlantic **to join our **Operational Excellence **team in **Sudbury. **This is a permanent position.

This role is responsible for Vale’s Production System (VPS) norms and guidelines across North Atlantic. As part of the Second Line of Defense, the Operational Excellence Manager’s role is to develop and implement VPS policies, methodologies, processes, and infrastructure; support the work of the 1st Line of Defense by providing training and tools; support and promote the exchange of knowledge and information to disseminate the VPS, risk management, risk prevention, and organizational culture, as well as support and monitor the compliance with VPS governance model.

**In this position, you will**:

- Design and implement Vale’s Operational Model (VPS) Philosophy and technical requirements across North Atlantic, while
- Establishing standards & expectations for VPS across North Atlantic.
- Establishing common systems, tools, scorecard and performance language (e.g. KPIs), including monitoring and reporting.
- Establishing VPS roadmap/deployment plan for sites.
- Establishing and maintaining a Community of Practice (CoP).
- Providing guidance and expertise via internal VPS Consultants and transfer knowledge to plant VPS specialists, including content development.
- Sharing best practices and track benchmarking across all operations.
- Raising visibility of opportunities related to Continuous Improvement.
- Running assessments to ensure sustainability of approach.
- Align the Operational Excellence initiatives and performance management systems in collaboration with the Base Metals Operational Excellence Leader, ensuring North Atlantic’s operations follow the VPS operating model;
- Provide direction for the implementation of management process, systems, and tools, ensuring that Continuous Improvement projects are properly implemented, effectively managed, tracked and reported;
- Audit business practices, provide guidance to meet corporate standards and develop action plans to close current gaps across all North Atlantic Operational Sites and Support functions;
- Oversee governance of KPIs across 5 dimensions (HSE, Cost, People, Production and Quality/Maintenance);
- Guide the methodological approach to standardize the work and the workplace conditions (5S, Visual Management, etc), define minimum conditions for all sites and audit it;
- Coordinate the implementation of Continuous Improvement programs, such as Six Sigma, Lean, Quality Control Circles (QCC) Projects and replication of good practices, in North Atlantic plants and mines worldwide;
- Implement VPS Training Centers in all North Atlantic operational units making them a reference in the training and consolidation of a management culture based on austerity, discipline, effectiveness in solving problems and permanent search for improved safety conditions, productivity gains and cost savings; and
- Work with Base Metals and North Atlantic senior leadership to recommend their annual Targets - ensuring that they are consistent with the Base Metals Strategic Plan and their own local objectives.

**About You**
- Post-secondary degree in a related field such as Production, Mine or Mechanical Engineer or Business Administration
- Continuous Improvement/Lean Certification is preferred
- Project Management (PMP) designation is preferred
- Professional certification in any one of these areas: CMSC, Eng., CA, CMA
- 8 to 10 years of related work experience
- Strategic thinking, strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution/negotiation skills.
- Solid knowledge and practical experience in the coordination and implementation of continuous improvement projects, with a wide range of tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Thinking, standardized work, problem solving methodologies
