Tourism and Sport - one of the Government of Alberta’s newest and most exciting ministries We lead the development, sustainability, and growth of Alberta’s visitor economy. We also lead the growth of Alberta’s non-profit sport system as well as promote safe and welcoming environments for sport, physical activity, and recreation.

The Sport, Tourism and Recreation (STAR) Division leads programming for the department. The Division is comprised of the Assistant Deputy Minister's office; the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (SPAR) Branch; and the Tourism Policy and Strategy Branch. The STAR Division collaborates with many Government of Alberta Ministries and with a broad range of tourism, sport, physical activity and recreation stakeholders. In modeling the Alberta Public Service Values, the Sport Consultant - Sector Development has an essential role in collaborating with the SPAR branch and division team, as well as other ministries and stakeholders to obtain organizational goals.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director Sector Development, the Sport Consultant position assists in the planning and coordination of the delivery of Indigenous sport, physical activity and recreation programs including the Alberta's Future Leaders (AFL) program, support for the Indigenous Sports Council Alberta, Arctic sports and Dene games related to the Arctic Winter Games. This is achieved through consultation with the Indigenous communities (First Nations and Metis Settlements). Interactions will occur with Indigenous community leaders from Councilors to youth program participants. Internally the interactions will be with branch staff, staff within the Ministry and from other government departments, sport, physical activity and recreation organizations and other service agencies.

**Responsibilities**:
Some of the responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Program Management
Drawing on knowledge and practical experience in coordinating events and working with various organizations in the sport sector, this position will assist in the planning, coordination and evaluation of Indigenous focused programs and services.

Policy Support and Implementation
Working within existing program policies and having some knowledge of current and emerging issues impacting sport, combined with experience in the area of sport, physical activity and recreation, the position will assist in providing information to further the development of policy recommendations.

Partnership and Program Coordination
Through an understanding of the business implications of cooperative efforts within the Ministry, other Ministries, Indigenous communities, provincial sport, physical activity and recreation organizations, agencies and/or with private sector organizations, this position will assist in producing more efficiencies and effectiveness in Indigenous community sport, physical activity, and recreation program delivery.

Leadership Development
Support knowledge, skill, and leadership development opportunities to AFL (Alberta's Future Leaders) program mentors and community liaisons, provincial associations, and program stakeholders to enhance their effectiveness and to enable them to be resources within their community or regional settings.

Financial Administration
This position will be responsible for the administration of program and grant budgets to ensure that expenditures reflect the purpose of the business plans and support the overall operation in such to encourage program benefits, ensuring the financial transactions meet the government's financial policies and guidelines.

Business Operations
This position will use their experience and knowledge of sport and in particular Indigenous sport participation to research and provide recommendations to the unit and senior management to facilitate the resolution of current and future issues.
