The role is responsible for planning, developing and measuring the effectiveness of public affairs strategies designed to promote, enhance and protect IIROC’s reputation, profile and brand among internal and external stakeholders and partners. The Manager, Public Affairs reports to the Director of Public Affairs and Member Education Services.

As the Manager, Public Affairs you will:
Lead a small team

Oversee major corporate documents and projects

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Develop holistic internal and external communications strategies that support IIROC’s mandate, on both a proactive and reactive basis. Lead communications best practices within the organization, demonstrating expert writing skills and a broad and deep understanding of the organization
- Manage strategies and associated tactics for major projects including social media, website, and the intranet.
- Draft news releases for organizational announcements and manage media inquiries. Prepare spokespeople, including senior leaders, for media interviews by executing media training sessions and developing key messages/responses
- Provides support to the Senior Leadership team in developing speaking materials and presentations to a variety of stakeholders (keynote addresses, investor events, presentations to other regulators and government, etc.)
- Manage the creation of communications collateral to ensure that it is consistent with the organization's brand, including news releases, social media content, website copy, executive communications, intranet content, and more.
- Monitor and measure the impact of communications to ensure consistent service delivery, identify areas to increase value, and bring forward creative solutions.
- Effectively counsels executives

**Education/Experience**:

- University degree or college diploma preferably related to communications, public relations or journalism
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in corporate communications or public affairs
- Extensive experience and proven ability to write about complex and highly technical issues in plain language for multiple audiences
- Knowledge of financial services/securities industry and knowledge of regulatory landscape would be an asset

**Key Skills and Competencies**:

- Experience developing, implementing and measuring the effectiveness of public affairs plans with limited resources (needs to be hands on with ability to think strategically and with discipline)
- Ability to think analytically and act quickly while maintaining accuracy, appreciating the consequences to the organization of actions taken daily, and public perception of IIROC work
- Superior writing and message development skills with ability to adapt for various platforms (website, video, annual report, executive speeches) and diverse stakeholder groups (internal and external)
- Strong proofreading/editing skills with attention to detail
- Proven ability to develop, articulate and gain support for organizational priorities and strategies
- Demonstrated project management expertise working in quick paced environments with time sensitive deadlines and multiple competing priorities
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and consultative skills
- Bilingualism would be an asset
