The Banquet Captain is a front line professional that welcomes guests to the hotel function & hospitality spaces, that assists in the supervision of hotel food & beverage staff in the completion of the assigned functions and set-up, as well as oversees the service and break-down functions in a safe manner. The Banquet Captain must represent the hotel through excellence in service and hospitality, and is required to maintain a flexible schedule and be available to work shift work including weekends, holidays & evenings
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:

- Check banquet event orders to ensure that all information is accurate.
- Check room set-up to see that banquet event order directions are completely followed. Ensure that all public areas are neat and clean.
- Make contact with group representatives. Explain how to make contact if needed throughout the function.
- Communicate all banquet event order changes to catering or convention services office and affected departments.
- Coordinate with banquet staff set-ups, changes and time schedules for all functions.
- Verify staffing levels for the next day's functions. Adjust schedules accordingly through the addition or cancellation of servers/bartender/hospitality.
- Operate as a banquet server when needed; setting-up, greeting and serving the guest and breaking-down the function.
- Inspect banquet areas at end of function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean.
- Verify all banquet checks at end of day and turn in to Night Audit.
- Assist in the training and supervision of all servers.
- Responsible for scheduling and operations in the absence of the Banquet Manager.
- Complete other duties as assigned or required.
- Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Minimum 1 year previous banquet/service supervisory experience required.
- ProServe certification required.
- Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
- Knowledge of the appropriate table settings and serviceware.
- Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
- Ability to transport up to 30 lbs. through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout the shift.
- Ability to operate beverage equipment, e.g., coffee maker.
- Must be completely familiar with the role during hotel emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, the use of Incident Reports and Logbooks.
- Fluent in English (written and oral).
- Must be able to work varied shift work, including weekends and holidays.

**ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Security clearance required upon offer of employment.
- Self-starting personality with an even disposition.
- Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
- _Highly organized, results oriented and ability to work in a multi-functional team environment._
- _Must be completely familiar with the role during hotel emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, the use of Incident Reports and Logbooks._
