**About the Role**:
As a Fabrication Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in leading a team of technicians to deliver high output of exceptional quality microfluidic chips and manage the production queue. You will be responsible for setting fabrication priorities in coordination with management, ensuring high-quality output, and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment within the team. Your experience in design, leadership and project management will contribute to the success of our organization.
**The Fabrication Team Lead reports to the Executive VP, Operations and will**:
- Manage the microfluidic chip production queue.
- Setting fabrication priorities in coordination with management
- Ensuring that all fabrication steps are logged in our software
- Assigning tasks to the fabrication team
- Booking tools
- Establish and maintain robust QA and QC processes in our chip fabrication process
- Manage relationships with key multi-user fabrication facilities in Edmonton, Vancouver, and elsewhere
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of tool capabilities and availability
- Ensuring a robust backup tool plan in case of equipment failure in Edmonton
- Manage plans and timeline for fabrication scale-up with 8” wafer scale fabrication centers
- Develop new cleanroom fabrication processes
- Work with the SapphireLab business unit to manage the distribution of chips to external clients
- Work with the operations and development teams to manage the distribution of chips to internal departments
- Fabrication of microfluidic chips in the cleanroom as needed
**You’ll Be Responsible For**:
- **Leadership**: Provide clear direction, mentorship, and guidance to the fabrication team. Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, encourage professional growth, and promote a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- **Strategy, Collaboration & Communication**: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including but limited to department managers, engineers, product and sales, to define objectives, strategies, and project requirements. Translate business goals into fabrication strategies and guide the team in executing these strategies effectively.
- **Project Management**: Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the heist quality standards. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources accordingly.
- **Fabrication Quality Assurance**: Review final deliverables to ensure they meet fabrication standards. Provide constructive feedback and support fabrication technicians in refining their work.
- **Continuous Improvement**: Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices to optimize workflow. Encourage innovation, experimentation, and exploration of new design techniques and technologies within the team.
- **Fabrication Duties**: Perform microfluidic chip fabrication in clean rooms in case of high loading of fabrication orders and tight timeframe.
**You Have**:
- A degree in nanotechnology, nanoengineering, micro/nanofabrication, material engineering, or similar.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in microfabrication design, methods, execution, and analysis for Si-glass and glass-glass chips.
- Expertise in using different types of microscopies (e.g. optical, SEM, AFM, and confocal)
- Experience in QA/QC procedures and protocols throughout every steps in fabrication operations
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g. CADWorks, AutoCAD) with advanced level design skills
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills
