Cambridge Shelter is excited to be running a 1 year pilot program for an outreach Peer Support worker, with potential for renewal.

**Position Description**

Peer Support Workers are people with _lived_ experience of homelessness, mental health, and/or addictions.

This position will provide peer support to the clients of the drop-in centre and those living in various outdoor locations in the city. The focus will be to provide support to people experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. CSC is a person-centred agency, dedicated to assisting individuals in moving forward with their lives.

**Position Statement**

Peer support is widely regarded as a cost-effective means to provide individuals with the connection, understanding, validation, and support that are essential to the rehabilitation process. Peer support is especially effective for clients with few personal and emotional supports.

**Duties of the position will include the following**:

- Establish rapport with individuals living in and out of shelter.
- Safely visit outdoor locations to provide or encourage supports
- Provide listening and problem-solving support
- Provide encouragement and ongoing relationships with peers
- Provide information on community resources
- Work in collaboration with Evening/Overnight Staff and weekend Drop-In Staff
- Work in a manner that preserves privacy and confidentiality
- Work in a manner that ensures client safety and minimizes risk to clients, staff and volunteers
- Work cooperatively with volunteers
- Work in a manner that is consistent with Cambridge Shelter Corporation’s vision, mission and values
- Adhere to all Cambridge Shelter Corporation policies and procedures

**Qualifications of the position**:

- Lived experience of homelessness
- Proven experience developing relationships and providing support
- Ability to value an individual’s right to privacy
- Ability to maintain boundaries in supportive relationships and within Cambridge Shelter policies
- Acceptance of individual differences and values, ability to practice harm reduction
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to take direction

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: $19.40 per hour
