**JOB SUMMARY**
- The Recreation & Leisure Centre is responsible for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of recreation, leisure, therapy and volunteer activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.
- Within one of the city’s Long Term Care Facilities (Garry Armstrong, Carleton Lodge, Centre d’accueil Champlain or Peter D. Clark Centre) you are responsible for implementing and facilitating a variety of recreation and leisure opportunities for residents. Duties include designing program tailored plans to resident needs, consulting with the resident, nursing staff, and other medical/professional service providers to ensure programs meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of residents, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Completion of 2 year community college diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field
- Minimum of 1 year of related experience working with seniors, geriatric patients/clients or long-term care residents which includes recreation planning and implementation.

**CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES**
- Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Planning and implementing programs with a geriatric population
- Wide range or recreation programs and resources geared to meet the needs of residents with Alzheimer/Dementia and other related disorders
- Computerized records systems applicable to Long Term Care (RAIMDS)
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

**COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Plan, deliver and evaluate activity programs for cognitively impaired, physically frail and normally aged residents in accordance with their individual needs
- Document resident progress for health record and care plans
- Contribute to and work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team
- Consult with residents, families, LTC staff and other health care providers to develop tailored, individual and appropriate resident care plans
- Communicate effectively and professionally, interpersonally and in writing with residents, families, LTC staff and other health providers
- Adapt to changing requirements and demands

- Demonstrated ability to manage time, priorities and organize activities within short time constraints
- Caring, empathy, patience and understanding in dealing with a geriatric population

- Meets the physical requirements of the job related to assisting residents with activities
