Your Opportunity:
The Recovery Coach (RC) will provide interventions and supports directly in the Emergency Department as part of the Emergency Medicine Team. Reporting to the Program Manager, the RC will be part of a grant initiative to create a Recovery Coach Network providing direct recovery-oriented support in the Emergency Department. Through their own lived experience(s) with addiction and personal recovery journey, as well as experience in using a recovery model, the RC authentically inspires hope and demonstrate the possibility of recovery. The RC supports individuals through an integration of recovery principles by sharing their recovery story, offering mentorship, advocating for service recipient’s needs, and supporting an integrated and recovery-oriented experience through recovery support. The RC will deliver a patient centered, needs based, trauma informed, culturally sensitive approach, supporting the service recipients’ specific goals on their road to recovery, as required. The RC will provide tangible and emotional support for the service recipient based on peer navigator best practices. As a result, the service recipient’s recovery and personal life goals can/are integrated with the health care team’s treatment goals. The RC supports service recipients to be informed and activated patients with better health outcomes, improving quality of life and greater degrees of community integration. Other providers are better prepared and proactive in providing integrated, recovery-orientated care. *Recovery oriented services focus on quality of life and reflect our understanding that recovery is a personal journey. It is characterized by the ability to have increasing responsibility and control of one's life in order to have hope, positive identity, and a meaningful life even within the limitations that may accompany addiction, mental health concerns or mental illness.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team. The team functions together to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services for the diverse needs of clients navigating life impacting experiences. Through your own lived experience(s), and experiences of recovery and resilience, as the Peer Support Worker, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your story, offering mentorship and support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and resiliency/recovery-oriented health care and treatment experience.

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Completion of grade 12 education or equivalent. Lived experience with addiction(s) (must identify in cover letter). Must be able to identify and willing to share one’s personal recovery journey experience. Minimum two (2) years of experience working with diverse and marginalized populations (work, practicum or volunteer). Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills (i.e., active listening, patient communication, strength-based approach). Demonstrate knowledge of systemic issues, such as poverty and stigma. Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize competing demands. Demonstrate self awareness and self reflection to support working in a respectful manner alongside other team members in a collaborative manner to make and maintain relationships. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider) BCLS-HCP.
