A part-time Peer Support Worker works in the Treatment Management and Recovery programs to support clients at various stages of **Job Summary**
At NAM, we work to augment programs as a Licensed Treatment program - Therapeutic community, Personalized Recovery Program (PRP), peer-led support groups, facilitated Recovery groups and education workshops about addiction and mental health well clients are living in community housing.
RC provides guidance, support, and motivation to individuals recovering from addiction or mental health challenges. Unlike therapists or counselors, recovery coaches focus on helping individuals develop practical skills, set achievable goals, and maintain long-term wellness. They work alongside individuals to: - Build recovery plans tailored to personal goals. - Identify triggers and develop coping strategies. - Encourage lifestyle changes that support sobriety and mental well-being. - Developing relapse plans - Provide emotional support and accountability. - Connect individuals with community resources, support groups, or treatment programs. Recovery coaches emphasize personal empowerment and focus on the present and future, helping clients make sustainable changes in their lives as they navigate the life of recovery.
As a Recovery Coach, you will be responsible for enhancing the social functioning and social environment of NAM client and families, working as a team with the staff at NAM, and assisting in delivering holistic care to clients.
This role will include ensuring that learning and practicing tools and techniques (meditation, breath-work, flash, tapping, CRM, yoga, prayer and/or intention setting, and others) for yourself will bring confidence for you to support the complex needs of patients you will be working directly with. An asset to as a Recovery coach using the tools and techniques will augment your work doing intakes, follow-ups, and basic screenings to patients as well as running sessions, charting notes, program planning, cooking, day to day activities and other duties at NAM.
**Awareness and embodiment of the NAM Principles for Harmonious living and the Mission Pillars and vision** will be a road map of your holistic journey at NAM.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
We use a state-of-the-art Electronic Medical Record system, Med Access and FYIdb and My Recovery that is required to complete above duties. Knowledge and ongoing support and knowledge of these systems is a win-win.
Time Commitment
Supporting recovery requires flexibility. We anticipate weekly hours may range from 20-38 hours including evenings, weekends, and early mornings (shifts will range from as early as 6 am to 10 pm 8 hours max). Your wellness and enjoyment of this experience are important, so the hours and work will be tailored to find a win-win.
Some unusual hours may be required from time to time as the need arises. Schedule may be altered at the discretion of management.
Job Duties
- Provide individual and group support for clients experiencing mental health concerns, addictions and/or homelessness
- Support clients in reaching goals as outlined in their recovery plans
- Facilitate peer-based groups, outings and recreation activities
- Provide program orientations to new clients and assist with intake procedure, as required
- Support with de-escalation and crisis intervention
- Support with client transports to appointments or discharge destinations
- Work together with clients to ensure completion of daily tasks and chores and relevant life skills (meal plans, schedule of daily activities and programs)
- Lead and facilitate groups around recovery topics
- Monitor common area spaces and support with wellness checks
- Support with internal and external referrals for ongoing client care
- Complete documentation in a professional and timely manner including maintaining relevant logs and entries in the NAM database
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences and ongoing professional development
- Meal planing, preparing and cooking including house hold duties with clients

Required Competencies
- Completion of a recognized Recovery Coach program is strongly desired
- Related experience (volunteer or paid) preferably in a similar field of mental health, addictions and/or homelessness is an asset
- Lived experience of addiction and mental health, and having walked a strong recovery journey is **essential**:
- Food Handling course
- First Aid
- Critical Incident and Crisis management
- Willingness or completed NAM in house training
Ability to utilize own lived experience to support other individuals’ recovery journeys
Experience with complementary healing practices, such as yoga, reiki, religious practices or others are an asset
