Highlights of the job
- We are hiring up to two (2) full-time permanent Analyst, Data to join the Water Services, Customer Operations team working primarily from the EPCOR Tower located in downtown Edmonton, AB.
- In the Analyst, Data role you are responsible for supporting optimal adoption of systems and use of data for decision making across EPCOR Water Services (EWS). You will be collaborating closely with business’ to define complex business problems, analyze data assets, perform root cause analysis and identify gaps. You will utilize a variety of tools (business intelligence, data mining, data modeling) to gather data from various sources and provide solutions to business users. In this position, you are also responsible for identifying and sourcing data, developing ELT/ETL data workflow, data wrangling, dimensional modelling and creating technical documentation.
- What you’d be responsible for
- In the Analyst, Data role you are accountable to the Manager, Data Architecture and operate within the context and prescribed limits established by them. The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

- Providing advanced technical expertise in the creation and maintenance of Data Architecture products (data pipelines, data catalog, technical documentation, etc.). This includes ensuring that project data extraction, transformation, analysis, and loading is completed within established timelines and align to recording rules that maintain data validity, accuracy and referential integrity.
- Collaborating with business stakeholder(s) to defined intricate business problems, to identify and understand the causes of the issue and propose realistic & practical solutions. Working closely with cross-functional teams to foster strong relationships and working to design and implement data solutions.
- Developing, maintaining and executing QA/QC measures to ensure that data products and web based data pipelines are aligned to established standards and procedures.
- Using business intelligence tools and data to analyze and manipulate end user data to produce visualizations that support decision making throughout Water Services. Where necessary, this may constitute empowering the end user to create the solution themselves and acting as a technical support resource.
- Accessing, converting and transforming end user datasets to update existing information, deriving new information or investigating and discovering patterns and trends. Executing database queries to support decision making across Water Services.
- Developing and implementing a schedule to systematically correct legacy database errors and discrepancies.
- Identifying gaps, errors or inadequacies in existing business process and making recommendations for improvement to their Manager.
- Working with functional areas across Water Services to gather, document and act on requirements that will support the establishment of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics tools as enabling technologies to support EWS strategic plans toward utility of the future.
- Maintaining a library of procedures that are used by data analysts to support database recording, database analysis and database reporting.
- Supporting dashboard / backend data troubleshooting tasks that require a response to data updates and maintenance inquires. Investigating and resolving data conflicts and inaccurate issues as they arise.
- Providing support to external communities, operations and/or stakeholders where/when required.
- What’s required to be successful
- Qualifications, experience and behaviours you will possess are:

- Graduate or Post-graduate degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems/Business Technology Management, Computer Engineering/System Technology, or other relevant areas from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
- Experience that includes:

- 3 years of:

- experience in the field of Business Intelligence / Data Analytics
- hand-on experience in SQL scripting and querying relational databases
- experience in data warehousing, data modelling (3NF and dimensional data models), and ETL processes
- 2 years of project experience as a data analyst, business analyst, or data scientist.
- Experience in:

- exploratory data analysis, including data cleaning and manipulation of various types of data.
- implementing solution in an agile, fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
- communicating data analysis results with technical and non-technical end-users.
- Sound knowledge on data warehousing concepts and experience in implementing data models, OLAP Cubes
- Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of data analytics, data management, and relational database concepts.
- Strong aptitude for problem solving, critical thinking and data analysis.
- Additionally, the following skills and experience are considered preferred assets to have:

- Certified data analyst / data engineer by Microsoft, Google
