The IOOF has recently embarked on the largest capital project in the IOOF’s history, with the launch of a $1.2 million redevelopment campaign to expand the facility to a 226-bed long-term care home. This transformative revitalization will create 64 new long-term care beds and 66 upgraded beds, modern spaces, updated equipment, private rooms, and increased square footage.

The Infection Prevention and Control Lead is committed to creating a collaborative working environment by means of proven leadership, teamwork, innovation, and best practices in IPAC. These responsibilities shall be carried out in accordance with The IOOF Seniors Homes Inc., mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, collective agreements and applicable legislation and regulations.

As an IPAC Lead you will be accountable for
- Coordination and implementation of infection prevention and control practices for the IOOF Home.
- Oversee facility wide infection control program.
- Leads the management of outbreaks in the Home in consultation with the local public health unit.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to determine policies and procedures for infection control, which reflects best practices.
- Develops policies for achieving compliance with best practices and provincial standards.
- Overall responsibility to analyze and review infection control data for minimizing risk.
- Educate staff on the principles and practices of infection prevention and act as a resource regarding infection prevention and control.
- Maintain current vaccines for all residents; ensure the home follows the infection control guidelines mandated by the Fixing Long-Term Care Act 2021
- Plan, develop, deliver, and implement all training/orientation for current and new employees in accordance with legislation and health care standards, and in consultation with the Leadership Team
- Regularly evaluate training programs to ensure the needs of the home is being met.
- Identify and report safety hazards, conduct regular safety inspections and follow safe working practices and behavior.
- Lead the implementation of changes mandated by regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies (includes reporting communicable diseases to the local public health)
- Monitor staff compliance with infection prevention guidelines regarding the disposal of sharps and biomedical waste, use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene practices and provides reports to the Profession Advisory/CQI Committee.
- Represents the IOOF Seniors Homes Inc. at local, provincial, and national committees and / or associations such as IPAC Canada and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to all staff, the Management team, medical staff, and Board Members.
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- RN/RPN degree or diploma.
- Minimum three (3) years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse in a leadership, supervisory or management position in a Long-Term Care setting required.
- Certificate or Diploma in Infection Control Practices required or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Proficient working knowledge of computers including advanced skill in the use of Point Click Care
- Minimum 1 year experience in Infection Control preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, in particular the Fixing Long Term Care Act 2021 and current IPAC Directives is an asset.
