**Overview**

REST Centers is a B3 (black-led, black-focused, black-serving) charity working to end youth homelessness in Peel Region by providing transitional housing and support services to youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including those leaving the foster care system. We are providers of a housing-first, community-driven model to keep youth off the streets and foster their transition to independent living. We move beyond ‘emergency or temporary’ solutions, focusing instead on continuum of care. We surround youth with holistic support, helping them change their story and discover new life possibilities, including shelter; income, food and basic necessities; physical, mental and emotional wellness; cultivating life skills and self-belief.

We are currently seeking a Registered Social Worker to join our team. You will provide culturally appropriate counseling to youth and families from the Black African and Caribbean communities, to address the challenges that may result in youth becoming homeless. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to support families experiencing conflict and needing support to navigate conflict and behaviors that affect the family environment in the interest of preventing homelessness for youth.We understand family dynamics can be complex. The Social worker through our referral partners will work with Black families to help prevent breakdown and youth accessing the shelter.

**Location**: Head office in Peel Region (Brampton), with requirements to across the Peel Region

**Key Responsibilities**
- Using a client-centered anti-Black racism lens, assists in family reunification and/or stabilization efforts with the youth’s primary family or other permanent living arrangement consistent with the youth’s care plan.
- Provides safety assessment, crisis response, and behavioral stabilization services as required to assure safety and stability for youth served.
- Provide culturally appropriate support, brief counseling and crisis interventions for families
- Document the use of solution-focused interviewing techniques and positive, empowering, strength-based language in communication with the family.
- Connect youth & families with support networks, outside agencies and community resources and organize ongoing service delivery.
- Work with youth who need support in building stronger self-esteem, conflict management with caregivers.
- Monitor the ongoing success or challenges inherent in the reunification experience, continue to identify emerging or enhanced strengths, and develop new strategies for additional assets.
- Support families in learning about their cultural identity in age-appropriate ways

Communicate concerns, needs and observations to Case Manager and other support staff.
- Provide case management guidance and supports to Case Managers as they navigate client issues.
- Monitor industry best practices, standards and regulations, and support REST's compliance monitoring.
- Lead bi-weekly Case Conferences and report critical support issues to the Program Manager
- Develop and facilitate educational workshops for Landlords in the Bridge of Hope program using trauma-informed and anti-oppressive and anti-racist foundation
- Develop and facilitate social programming Youth in the Bridge of Hope Program designed to help them develop strong interpersonal skills
- Establish and maintain professional alliances with collateral agencies and service providers
- Maintain professional documentation, in the form of assessments
- Work flexible hours related to the needs of the clients, evening work will be required

**Qualifications And Experience**
- Degree in Social Work and related work experience providing culturally informed counseling, crisis intervention and group facilitation to individuals and families from the Black, African and Caribbean community
- 2 years plus related work experience counseling individuals and families from the Black, African and Caribbean community.
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Parent Management Training and Behavior Management Systems Training
- Knowledge of a variety of theoretical approaches including, but not limited to, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Systems, Attachment, Aggression Replacement Training and Transtheoretical Model
- Ability to attract the community to the agency using innovative and exciting strategies
- Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Valid police clearance with vulnerable sector check
- Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's G-license
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written

**Transferable Skills**
- Lived experience of the Black, African & Caribbean culture, in particular, understanding of anti-Black racism issues
- Understanding of trauma and attachment in relation to gender violence issues
- Proven time-management, organization, engageme
