**The BC SPCA is looking to fill the following job opportunity**:
**POSITION**: Animal Transfer
**TYPE**: Permanent; Part-Time
**SHIFT**: 8 hours in per week
**LOCATION**: BC SPCA Nanaimo Animal Centre
**WAGE**: $22 per hour
**CLOSING DATE**: Open Until Filled
Join the team The BC SPCA Nanaimo Animal Centre is looking to fill a permanent, part-Time Animal Transfer role.
You are an energetic team player who will participate in all animal care duties and ensure that optimal levels of care are administered to the animals based on the Five Freedoms. You have experience in customer relations and previous experience in animal husbandry. You care deeply about animals and uphold the highest animal care standards and will be responsible for the cost-effective, sanitary and humane operation of the vehicle, the health and welfare of the animals during transportation and any associated documentation. Under the direction of the Manager, Animal Transfer Program your passion and experience with animals will assist you:
- To pick up and deliver animals to designated areas
- To sanitize cages in vehicle between each pick-up or delivery
- To ensure appropriate paperwork is completed and accompanies animal prior to transportation
- To work collaboratively with shelter staff and management regarding designated animals for pick-up or delivery
- To maintain records as required and insure that accurate and timely information is available
- To treat animals humanely
- To monitor number of animals in Shelters i.e. numbers of animals in kennels, the need for transportation in or out of a Shelter
- To deliver supplies to Shelters
- To keep vehicle clean, inside and outside and report maintenance repairs to the manager
- To monitor any animal during transportation for signs and disease and report findings to the Manager, Animal Transfer Program
- To perform any other duties that may be assigned, including assisting with animal care in the shelter as needed
**To succeed in this role, you have**:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License in good standing
- Strong desire to provide excellent customer service skills: patience, professional, positive attitude, attention to detail, adaptability
- Experience in handling animals
- Excellent verbal communication and handwriting skills
- 3 years’ experience with animals in a Shelter setting
- Resourceful team player who excels at building trusting relationships with colleagues, customers and volunteers
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with mínimal supervision
- A sound knowledge of animals, their breeds, characteristics and common diseases
- Demonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfare
- Previous animal control, welfare or enforcement experience an asset
- Position is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, pushing and pulling which requires an individual with the ability to maintain a level of fitness and endurance to fulfill the required duties
- Familiar with working in a union environment
- Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA
- The animals in our care require attention seven days a week, must be flexible and able to work weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays
