Responsibilities:
The Quality Manager reports directly to Vice President of Quality and is responsible to promote and support a quality and safety culture. This position educates, implements, monitors, reports and reviews quality practices, methods and standards ensuring that these practices methods and standards are aligned with current Health and Safety legislation, as well as to meet quality objectives for the company.
- Builds, implements, improves and monitor a quality system that fits both company culture and meets government regulations within Canada as well as to meet requirements for export of products to other countries.
- Collaborates with other departments to improve company’s operating processes by incorporating ISO 9001 concepts, including the supplier approval, contract review and procurement programs.
- Handles second and third-party audits, including supplier audit and Safe Quality Food (SQF) audits and co-ordinate activities needed for completion of external audits by third parties.
- Monitors government regulations and communicates with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to ensure process controls and product specification meet legislated requirements within Canada as well as for export of products to other countries.
- Conduct annual Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) re-validation and verification to ensure the internal quality program is current and effectively addresses safety/quality concerns in the processing of product.
- Plan, direct and manage semi-annual internal audits, as well as facility inspections, to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed as well as to ensure compliance with regulations and/or legislation, and record recommendations for areas of improvement and/or actions to be taken to be reviewed with management.
- Oversee the creation, and updates, of the QMS manuals, related documents, including staff notices or posted bulletins.
- Collaborate with Research and Development (R&D) in regard to existing process document, product improvement, to validate new processes and/or to collaborate on product quality control plans.
- Control corrective and preventive measures and constantly improve the formulation of these measures
- Inspect and assess the product quality of suppliers
- Deal with customer’s complaints about product quality by conducting verification tests, track and make statistical analysis of the results
**Qualifications & Experience**
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in food science, microbiology, chemistry or related area, master’s degree an asset.
- SQF Advance Practitioner certificate
- HACCP certificate
- PCQI (Animal) certificate
- Audit certificate
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a food quality assurance position.
- Demonstrated knowledge and training certificates in Safe Quality Food (SQF) by leading SQF audits and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP).
- Experience working in a quality focused work environment, and knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), FSSC 22000, and ISO 9001.
- Experience in implementing and managing a quality management system an asset.
- Experience in research and experimentation an asset.
- Good problem-solving abilities, able to identify and implement solutions that are sustainable and support a work culture of safety and quality.
- Ability to conduct inspections to ensure that equipment, materials and processes do not present a health or safety hazard, to identify and to support consistent quality work practices.
