Wildfire Operations Research Program*
**Description**
Reporting to the Senior Director, the Wildfire Operations Manager provides guidance, direction and leadership for the research team based throughout western Canada. In close collaboration with the Senior Director, he/she is in charge of promoting and expanding the program across the country and communicating the benefits of the program to industry members and government partners. The Manager guides his/her personnel towards the achievement of annual research plans that are aligned with the strategies and priorities of the stakeholders and designed to expedite value delivery. He/she ensures the effective implementation of the program within budget and deadlines, while providing high-quality results that meet the client’s expectations.
The Manager must have good knowledge of wildfire management and response to wildfires across the country. He/she will be called upon to work in collaboration with supporting organizations such as the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, Canadian Forest Service, universities, industry, and other partners to complement FPInnovations’ research efforts.

Responsibilities*
- Supervise a team of researchers in carrying out research projects;
- Contribute to the long-term success of the organization by being aware of trends and opportunities as well as understanding the needs of governments (federal and provincial) and industry with regard to wildfire operations;
- Work closely with managers and personnel and, in consultation with the Senior Director, direct the development and implementation of the Wildfire Operations research program, while reflecting the national needs of stakeholders and partners and respecting contractual obligations;
- Generate revenue for the program and the organization by finding new contract opportunities with stakeholders and partners of FPInnovations;
- Prepare project proposals, design experiments, and explore new procedures to improve the operations and cost-effectiveness of members’ operations;
- Support a safety culture and ensure compliance with the health and safety standards of FPInnovations and of all governments.

Qualifications*
- University degree in a relevant field
- Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of people and to lead teams towards achieving organizational goals;
- Expertise in project, human resource, and budget management;

Skills*
- Excellent communicator with advanced problem-solving, negotiation, and consensus-building skills;
- Considerable understanding of the Canadian wildfire environment and recognized as a proven leader within it;
- Willingness to periodically travel;
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) and French an asset.
