The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill **one full-time Mines and Minerals Specialist** position within our **Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department **located at 200 Main Street in **Winnipeg, MB**. The Mines and Minerals Specialist will research, inform, and report on all mineral exploration, mine development and reclamation related matters to any project, and attend mining-related meetings across the Red River Métis Homeland as necessary.
**_ Job Duties/Competencies:_**
- Develop policy options and recommendations based on research and analysis on the impacts of mining-related activities on Red River Métis section 35 rights, claims and interests;
- Prepare information and options to present to MMF Cabinet;
- Prepare annual and monthly activity reports;
- Assist in the preparation of annual work plans;
- Prepare program and funding proposals;
- Assist in negotiations for services and contracts;
- Attend community workshops and meetings and coordinate the facilitation of meetings, etc.
**_ Skills and Qualifications:_**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Resource Management, or equivalent education will be considered;
- Experience negotiating with federal and provincial departments;
- Experience in policy and program development;
- Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is an asset;
- Experience or training in quantitative data analysis;
- Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills;
- Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
