**JOB SUMMARY**

In accordance with established policies and procedures, assists residents with activities of daily living

RESPONSIBLE TO: Care Manager or Designated Coordinator

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Provides and assists residents with personal care such as bathing, dressing, care of skin and hair, bed changing, washing, bowel and bladder care, caring for teeth and nails

2. Transfers, porters and ambulates residents, utilizing mechanical aids, such as wheelchair, walkers, mechanical lifts and ceiling lifts

3. Ensures residents receive adequate nutrition according to individual care plans by feeding, distributing meals and nourishments, noting changes in appetite, meal time management and food preferences

4. Under the direction of a nurse, administers suppositories and enemas, provides routine cleaning of catheter area, applies non-sterile dressings and topical medication including ointments and lotions, takes and records temperature, pulse and respirations, and obtains routine laboratory specimens

5. Observes and reports changes in a resident’s functional and cognitive behaviour to the nurse on duty. Records observations and makes changes to ADL’s as needed such as night checks.

6. Assists with admissions, discharges and transfers of residents such as helping the resident with packing and unpacking, introductions to their neighbours and table-mates

7. Assists and encourages residents to participate in recreation programs and other activities such as exercises, reading, games, etc

8. Answers resident call bells promptly

9. Sorts residents’ personal laundry, distributes house linens and changes beds

10. Maintains proper care and identification of resident’s clothing and personal effects

11. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the nurse

12. Performs other related duties as assigned

13. Identifies resident’s personal preferences and dislikes and provides person centered care accordingly

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**

Grade 10, plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Criminal Record Check

**JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES**

1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

2. Ability to deal with others effectively

3. Physical ability to carry out duties of the position

4. Ability to organize work

5. Ability to operate related equipment

6. Ability to provide person centered car

**Salary**: From $25.83 per hour
