**Job Overview**:
The Relentless Empowerment Coach provides ongoing support to the parent and their family, meeting them where they are in their life journey, and encouraging autonomy and resilience. By overcoming challenges and reducing barriers, Teen parents attend school more regularly, are more engaged in learning, learn more life skills to make effective decisions and goals, and see a positive future for themselves. We work with parents one-on-one, in group settings, and through community or home visitation.
**Job Conditions**:
This is a full time (35 hours/week) with flexible hours Monday through Friday, 1-2 evenings/week, and the occasional weekend based on the needs of families and staff and to support day/evening programming. The position will be working out of the Braemar School located at 9359 67A Street.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Be a leader and ambassador of Terra Centre for Teen Parents by practicing in a manner that is consistent with Terra’s mission, vision, values, policies, strategic goals, and practice model
- Participate in annual performance review process
- Facilitate effective relentless strategies to ensure every participant feels welcomed, included and that they belong (ex. greeting every participant as they arrive)
- Strengthen and promote relationships by empowering and nurturing emotional attachments between the youth, their school and their natural support system
- Relentlessly provide coaching, guidance and support to empower participants to be fully contributing members of society through building skills and confidence in problem solving, effective decisions and goals, and inspiring resilience.
- Meet with participant on a 1:1 basis to identify their natural support system, develop goal(s), increase supportive relationships, aim to reduce sources of stress and strengthen core skills
- Ability to co-create Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals with youth and utilize theories and practice guides valued by the agency to support participant growth
- Conduct interaction with participants in a professional manner, maintaining healthy professional boundaries in all participant interactions
- Planning and conducting transition and follow up.
- Acknowledge the attainment of participants goals, milestones and/or efforts towards their achievement
- Navigate high stress situations and offer regulation and de-escalation skills to support individuals in a variety of challenging situations
- Connect parents to beneficial, affordable and sustainable community resources to increase their network of support
- Coordinate referrals and assessments to other community resources for families who require further support
- Seek opportunities for collaboration and other methods of working cooperatively with other community agencies and partners to meet the needs of participants.
- Interpersonal skills to help establish positive working relationships with participants, families, natural support networks, and stakeholders
- Able to be adaptable while establishing clear boundaries, triaging and prioritizing the demands of the role
- Adhere to Terra’s policies and procedures and to the professional code of ethics of applicable professional associations
- Provide school-based supports: one to one or in group settings
- Engagement in conversations during Community of Practice and Team Unit Meetings, Internal and External committees and resource fairs to increase staff awareness and capacity
**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary degree in Human Services, Child and Youth Care, Social Work; or a diploma with extensive related experience equivalent
- Experience providing outreach support services through community and/or home visitation
- Experience providing life skills coaching and training
- Experience working with low income and marginalized participants, including people facing multiple barriers
- Experience working in a school environment
**Knowledge and Abilities**:
- Effectively and respectfully works with others who have diverse traditions, beliefs, interpersonal styles, attitudes, and behaviors.
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written
- Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth
- Knowledge of issues associated with people impacted by mental illness and substance abuse
- Knowledge of referral services and supports within the Edmonton community and/or the ability to research and connect with community resources
