What Is the Opportunity?
As a member of local line of business management team, you are responsible for product quality and performance for a specific team of claim professionals. This includes providing guidance and direction to direct reports through a continuous process of manager involvement and frequent claim file reviews. Serve as a field representative for the claim product, as requested. Reinforce line of business vision, strategies, and objectives through word and action. Select, lead, mentor, performance manage and develop staff. In addition, as the lead of the Vendor Management Program for Auto Canada Claims, you are responsible for managing the development, implementation and ongoing performance of the Vendor Management Program. This role is a manager.
What Will You Do?
- Unit Manager Responsibilities:
- Attract, Retain and Develop World Class Talent:
- Proactive recruitment of talent; work with management to establish and implement a strategic staffing strategy.
- Effective orientation and on-boarding.
- Manage staff performance; implement strategies and plans to address staff development; identify and address training needs on an ongoing basis; provide frequent performance feedback.
- Work with management to develop and implement effective training, performance development and succession planning.
- Effective retention planning; proactively manage and respond to turnover.
- Effectively utilize reward system to distinguish top performers and significant achievements.
- Provide Compelling Claim Services:
- Employ proper claim handling techniques to protect the integrity of our brand and providing consistent service quality and streamlined processes to add value for our customers.
- Develop & execute a strategic file management plan that achieves optimal file resolution and business results.
- Provide face-to-face and written guidance to ensure effectiveness, engagement, accuracy and efficiency.
- Review new notices, ensuring claims are assigned to staff with appropriate skill sets.
- Conduct quality file reviews per office/ best practices guidelines.
- Establish/ follow up on file reviews per diary instructions, conducting additional reviews (i.e. 180, 360 day reviews), as necessary.
- Implement strategies and initiatives to improve file quality, customer service and manage costs.

- Successfully leverage data, management information and technology to identify and make the most of opportunities to support business strategies and improve results.
- Achieve Optimal Solutions.
- Claim Vendor Management Responsibilities:
- Manage the implementation of new and existing contracts in line with all company requirements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with all Auto vendors.
- Work closely with all Auto partners to ensure that the vendor panel is fit for purpose.
- Ensure that all Auto vendors are charging the appropriate market rates.
- Ensure that all Auto vendors are supplying a best in class service.
- Provision of key management information including but not limited to utilization, overall spend, reporting, cycle times and workflow.
- Ensure all Auto vendors are delivering the service commitments through the disciplined enforcement of contractual obligations.
- With Claims Managers and the Canada Auto Claim Management Team and Auto product, jointly accountable to ensure Auto vendors are used only where appropriate and the scope of their role is limited to activities where they add value.
- Co-ordinate and communicate vendor performance to all levels of the Auto organisation as appropriate.
- Ensure a continuity of service provided by Auto vendors to our customers.
- With Auto Claims Managers, Canadian Auto Claim Management team and Auto product, jointly accountable for innovation in the delivery of operational services by a continuous review of processes and when appropriate make recommendations to enhance the service to our customers and business partners.
- Take personal responsibility for allocating yourself strictly where it will provide the greatest impact.
- Assist with the development of financial modeling and cost benefit analysis; adopting a cost benefit approach to all business decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5 years Claim work experience in at least one line of business.
- 2 years Claim management experience.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in managing projects and handling multiple priorities.
- Vendor management, financial control or risk management experience.
