**Location** - This role is in person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

**Working for the University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS)**

University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS) is an operational unit within Facilities and Operations (F&O). As the public safety agency for the University community, UAPS works to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and the general public.

**Position**

Reporting to the UAPS Security Program Coordinator, as a part of the Support Services Division, Security Agents will be assigned to site security and/or patrol duties. Security Agents prevent loss or damage within a building, facility, or space utilized by the University of Alberta and/or those to whom the University is contracted on either a temporary or permanent basis. The position provides a presence at various special events, such as private parties and festivals, and at various locations that include, but are not limited to: University libraries, residences, and development projects.

**Duties**
- Proactively patrol areas of the University
- Detect and report incidents that require a higher level of Peace Officer and police response.
- Provides information and assistance to the university community and guests/visitors.
- Participates in community crime prevention programs and education activities.
- Assists in building evacuations for life/safety incidents, and provides perimeter security and crowd control during emergency operations.
- Takes notes, completes written reports and enters information into the database as required.
- Attends court and tribunals, provides testimony and conducts oneself in a professional manner.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Minimum high school education by Alberta Education standards (or equivalent).
- Must hold an Individual license under the Alberta Security Services and Investigators Act.
- Emergency or Standard First Aid Certification and Level C CPR with AED.
- Obtain a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check.
- Able to work shift work.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Completion of a security-related diploma. A university degree or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Security management-specific education. Significant security-related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Several years of progressive security experience.
- Experience working in a post-secondary environment. Knowledge of the University of Alberta campus is an asset.
