Position Title Civil Foreman
Location Yard in Shawnigan. Work in Victoria.
Reports to Management / Ownership
Job Summary
The Civil Foreman is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day construction activities on-site, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards as well as managing crew. The Civil Foreman works closely with the project management team to coordinate labor, materials, and equipment, and ensures that the project schedule is met.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision and Management
Oversee and coordinate the activities of construction workers and subcontractors. Assign daily tasks to the crew and ensure that the work is executed according to the project plan and timelines.
Project Planning and Execution
Assist in planning daily construction activities and manage the implementation of the work schedule. Ensure that all activities adhere to construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
Quality Assurance
Conduct regular inspections to ensure that the work performed meets the specified quality standards and follows the project’s design and specifications. Address any quality issues that arise.
Safety Compliance
Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and regulations on the job site. Conduct safety briefings, implement safety protocols, and ensure that workers are following all safety procedures. Promptly address any unsafe working conditions.
Resource Management
Coordinate the use of materials, tools, and equipment to ensure that they are available and in working condition. Monitor and control material usage to avoid waste and ensure project cost-efficiency.
Communication and Coordination
Act as the primary on-site point of contact between the workforce and project managers. Report on work progress, delays, or any issues encountered. Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and engineers to ensure smooth project operations.
Problem-Solving
Address and resolve any on-site issues or obstacles, such as technical problems or delays, that may impact the project timeline or quality. Make informed decisions to keep the project on track.
Documentation
Maintain daily records of labor, equipment, and material usage, as well as progress reports. Provide regular updates to project managers and assist in preparing documentation for inspections and approvals.
Training and Development
Train and mentor construction crew members in proper techniques, safety standards, and best practices to ensure high-quality and safe execution of tasks.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in civil engineering or construction management is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in civil construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction procedures, tools, materials, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in project management and scheduling software (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to different job sites as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy materials, standing for long periods, and performing manual labor.
Pay: $45.00-$55.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 - 50 per week
