Live in Volunteer/ Resident Care Provider

**Position Summary**

The Live-in Volunteer Staff person lives at the house, is responsible for working from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM Monday to Sunday. They are expected, when necessary, to cover shifts in the absence of regularly scheduled staff including days, evenings, overnights and weekends, and assists staff during emergencies.
- Covers Sunday Shift 8:00 - 4:00
- Does one Shift during all Stat Holidays

¨ Be willing and available to share your Faith with residents at their request.

¨ Ability to work in a controversial social area and live in community.

¨ Possess a genuine desire to help people with HIV/AIDS.

¨ Knowledge of and ability to work with persons struggling with substance abuse.

¨ Ability to problem solve, be effective in conflict resolution and mediation.

¨ Ability to work independently & work as part of a team.

¨ Demonstrates ability to foster an environment that supports client care.

¨ Subscribes to the Mission Statement and policies of House of Hesed.

¨ Self-motivated (recognizes a job needed doing and does it).

¨ Demonstrated interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication abilities.

¨ Knowledge of Universal Precautions.

¨ CPR/First Aid Course required.

¨ Criminal Record Search Certificate with Vulnerable Sector screening.

¨ Respect, adhere & represent the House of Hesed code of conduct.

¨ A minimum 1-year commitment is required.

**JOB DESCRIPTION** **(responsibilities)**

**Resident administration**

¨ Gives medications as required

¨ General physical care of residents requiring assistance
- Update all confidential resident logs and Medication logs
- Assist Male Resident requiring support to Shower every Sunday

**Staff/Volunteer/Office administration**

¨ fills in for other staff positions as required

¨ updates staff information log books

**House administration**

¨ Assists staff in case of emergency

¨ May be required to do grocery shopping or various errands

¨ Assist with shovelling snow (sidewalks, porches, fire escapes), mowing lawn and raking
- Help prepare and share in the evening meal in the absence of regular staff person. May be required to cover the day, evening, overnight, or weekend shifts as per specific job descriptions.

**Spiritual and Faith Based duties (at the request of the residents);**

¨ Ability to lead and or participate in Bible study groups with residents, staff and volunteers who wish to attend.

¨ Ability to lead and participate in group and/or individual prayer with residents, staff and volunteers

¨ Ability to share and discuss Christian faith values, principles and doctrine

¨ Must be willing to say Grace before meals

**EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS**

1. Room and board is provided. (Any food and/or toiletries for the exclusive use of the Live-In Staff are to be purchased and supplied by the Live-In Staff person).

2. Live-in staff person will be paid at minimum wage if called to cover more **than 24 hrs/week**

3. There will be a 1-month probation period from start date of employment.

4. This is a one-year commitment from start date of employment.

5. Resignation requires 3 months written notice.

6. Attends staff meetings and workshops, which begin with prayer.

7. Complaints or grievances will be discussed with the Staff Coordinator with the goal of resolving the problem within a five-day period from notification of the problem.

8. In the event that a resolution cannot be reached with the Staff Coordinator, further discussion of the grievance or complaint will be held with the inclusion of the Executive Director and one of the Board Members. This decision will be considered final.

9. on site hours: 12:00am - 8am (with some flexibility and consideration). *Must be available via cell phone at all times in case of emergency.
