Coastal Pacific Xpress is currently seeking a passionate and motivated **Dispatcher** to join our winning team

**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
The Dispatcher Island/Local Operations is responsible for the planning and execution of daily shipment requests, ensuring that the appropriate Local/Island operators are assigned to each trip. The Dispatcher works closely with our customers to ensure their needs are being fully met and/or exceeded. This individual works with all operators to ensure all trips are coordinated, company resources are optimized, and all customer orders are moving on time. They play a leadership role in the operations planning function, collaborating effectively with all team members, drivers and third parties to achieve daily objectives.
Reporting to the Manager, Operations, your responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
**Manage Caller/Shipper/Consignee Relationships**:
- Effectively communicate with drivers on a daily to ensure scheduled pickups and deliveries
- Coordinate and organize freight appropriately with equipment requirements, communications and utilization management
- Manage and compile data pertaining to orders, loads, and execution of planning
- Load planning/setup for next day
- Call customers/drivers to check on shipment status
- Trouble shoot/resolve customer complaints
- Completing schedules and ensuring that customer orders are accomplished in a safe, efficient and timely manner
**Planning and Dispatch**:
- Review in transit and next day loads
- Plan and optimize day off and next day loads (using OUTLOCAL filter)
- Work closely with third parties (for sailing allotment)
- Dispatch maintenance, dropping orders onto trips.
- Report to Operations Team Lead/ Manager about the coverage update for the next day
- Optimizing and dispatching trucks for next day based off of planning
**Admin / Trip Monitoring**:
- Start the day by reviewing night notes and following up with the issues
- Review in transit loads to make sure OTD is not affected
- Plan and assign morning loads/trailers as per customer requirements
- Reoptimizing trips with the new ETA’s if any delays
- Communicating to customers/operators on delays
- Keeping system updated
- Performs other tasks as assigned
This position reports into both the Manager, Operations and Team Lead. Inquiries/accountabilities are allocated accordingly:
**Team Lead**:
- Operational Concerns
- Update to customers regarding delayed orders
- Reporting problems such as a customer upset or unable to update a customer
- Volume for the day
- Power for the day
**Operations Manager**:
- Staffing Issues
- Performance Concerns
- Equipment Concerns
- Training/reviewing errors
- After hours troubleshooting
**WHAT YOU BRING**:
- 4 - 5 years of experience working in a Dispatch or planning role, of similar capacity
- Knowledge of the logistics, supply chain and/or transportation industry preferred.
- Experience working with company drivers, owner operators and third-party carriers.
- Post-secondary education in Transportation, Operations, Logistics or related field.
- Excellent customer service abilities and a dedication to continuous improvement.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task
- Approachable, positive demeanor with a hands-on and team-oriented work style.
- Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to learn systems quickly, and understand process and workflows of systems
- Organized and time management capabilities
- Ability to manage stressful situations and work under pressure
- Flexible to work extended hours occasionally
- Operational excellence and understanding of cost effectiveness and efficiency
- Understanding of operational metrics, KPIs and relation to Dispatch function
- Strong interpersonal skills including leadership, conflict resolution and team building abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to quickly understand and identify issues and propose solutions.
