Reporting to the Safety Lead, the Safety Technician will be responsible for providing health, safety, and environmental awareness and training on designated projects. The Safety Technician will assist with various safety administration and procedural duties while providing exceptional customer service. This is a field-based position that will work on a rotational schedule where camp accommodations will be provided. This role will be based out of Northern Ontario and/or Northern Manitoba.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Provide guidance to site employees and contractors about company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Assist Health and Safety team in writing and updating procedures, safe work practices and emergency response plans
- Conduct inspections, orientations, audits, and safety meetings
- Assist with maintenance of the COR program
- Complete incident and near miss investigations
- Assist with safety training and education to employees
- Assist site supervisors with specialized training if required
- Oversee the site Occupational, Health and Safety Committee
- Complete job safety analysis and risk registers, train, and evaluate the hazard assessment process.
- Assist with emergency response plan for site
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly safety record statistics for job site
- Follow all requirements of the company Health and Safety Program and support a safe work environment
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Completion of a Highschool Diploma is required
- Passionate about pursuing a career in the safety field
- Certificate, NCSO designation, or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety will be considered an asset
- Intermediate MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to build relationships is essential
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail is required
- Ability to positively confront individuals and upkeep professionalism while enforcing safety regulations and concerns
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is required
- Effective time management skills are required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality with critical and sensitive information
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written as well as electronically
