This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $76,135 - $85,660. This position has an initial appointment of 12 months.

**Location** - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

The main responsibility of the Research Associate is to manage the laboratory of the principal investigator, Dr. Sandra Davidge. The research in the lab focuses on cardiovascular physiology with a specific interest in the area of women's, maternal and perinatal cardiovascular health. The two major research lines are: 1) Vascular function in preeclampsia and 2) Fetal programming of cardiovascular disease. A major role for this position is conducting isolated vascular experiments in both pressure and wire myograph systems, as well as teaching trainees in the laboratory on these complex physiological research platforms.

- Conduct and lead complex medical research in the field of maternal-fetal-newborn health
- Development and planning of future research program objectives
- Independently design experiments, data collection protocols and research methods, run their own research project and participate in the experimental design, methods and data collection of all laboratory members
- Supervise, train and guide students and post-doctoral fellows (up to 6 people at a time)
- Participate in and write research manuscripts for scientific journals

- A PhD degree in a related discipline (medicine), preferably in maternal/fetal health
- At least 4 years of post-doctoral research experience in maternal/fetal health research
- Extensive skills in wire myography technique for vascular function assessment (at least 3 years)
- Skills in working with laboratory animals (rats) and standard laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry and Western Blotting
- Strong organizing, time management, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills and the ability to take a leadership role in a team environment
