**Summary of Duties**:
Reporting to the District Principal of Inclusive Education, the Youth Worker participates as a member of a team and assists in the ongoing planning, organizing and adapting of the goals and objectives of Individualized Education Plans and/or behaviour support plans and their implementation under the direction of the counsellor/ teacher. These programs and supports promote the social, emotional and personal development of at-risk, vulnerable students in schools or alternate programs. These positions may require vigilance in order to ensure the safety of student(s) and/ or staff. The requirements will vary depending on the student(s) assigned. These positions require experience in education with primary aged students.
**_**This position _**_will _**_support the social, emotional and personal development of Indigenous students and will participate as a member of our Indigenous Success team. **_**
**Required Qualifications and Experience**:
- Grade 12 Graduation
- Completion of a 2-year Child and Youth Care Worker diploma program
- Course in Early Childhood Education/Development
- Courses in conflict resolution/ mediation skills (approximately 2 months)
- Courses in substance misuse (approximately 2 months)
- Proven success in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with at-risk students (i.e. street youth, pregnant and parenting teens, behaviourally challenged children/ youth)
- Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and decision-making in a related field
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team Valid B.C. Driver's license
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with school counselling and administration teams to support student success and well-being
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral) skills
- Some knowledge of standard office equipment including personal computers
- A strong understanding and background in Indigenous studies, history and culture.
- An understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning
- A basic understanding of the Squamish Language would be an asset.
OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Successful applicants not currently employed by West Vancouver Schools are required to sign a “consent for Criminal Record Search” to permit a criminal record review._
